Flying Fortress Mk111

Leave a clean gap behind the turbocharger exhausts and then stain from end of engine nacelle up to trailing edge. I did mine simply mottling black with a large brush. In a black a/c a combination of dark grey shades should do it. V-P

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I will not have any access to any of those products before this GB finishes, so I will just have to do the dry brushing lark very lightly. Whereabouts is the exhaust staining on a B-17?

If you look at V-P's note he has a picture of a B-17 that is heavily stained...it gives you a great look at where the staining is on the top. Here's couple of other pics that may be of help.

Managed to do a light bit of dry brushing to simulate some sort of staining. I added the radar dish and fitted the radome. I am now in the process of applying the matt varnish.

I took off all the masking and only had minimal touch up...very happy about that. Got the touch-up done and polished the clear parts. I'll start weathering next. Then add the final small bits.

It should be done by the end of next week.

Matt varnish has now been applied and there is some slight slivering around the E on the Sqn codes. I will try and get rid of this in the coming days. I will also remove all the window masks and start to add some of the smaller parts. I am glad that I did add the radar scanner as you can see in the last photo that is shows through the varnish that has been applied. The weathering on the top surfaces show fine, although the bits on the undersides does no seem to, but there is some there. I have painted up the wheels and will add some weathering to these plus the U/C and their bays.

Almost there. Here are some pictures of where I am. The props and their parts have been put together ready to fit to the engines. I have added the wheels and the rod things around the waist windows, plus I have removed all the masking where I did have one slight problem in that a lump of paint attached itself to the windows above the rear fuselage. Luckily a sanding stick and a bit of a polish cleared this. I am also amazed at how clear all the window are. A few more parts to add and a bit of painting to do but hopefully not much longer before it is finished.

  • 2 weeks later...

Model finished and pictures taken, but I am unable to upload them to Village photos at the moment don't know why as it has never happened before. Will try again tomorrow, or can someone recommend another free photo hosting site.

What about imgur.com?

It seems that most of the hosting sites are going to apply a limit on the number of pics after which a charge will be made, From my point of view I have already had the inconvenience of switching from Photobucket to Flickr (I think Flickr is superior now anyway) so I am considering upgrading when I reach the 'limit'. Like @vppelt68 says its a sign of the times I'm afraid.

Thanks for all your advise. I have been able to upload the photos to Village Photos at work so I will hopefully post them here tonight. I will also try to upload some other photos to the Village  Photos site tonight to see if the problem somehow is with my computer or its operating system.

And here at last the finished article. I really enjoyed this kit, even with the little bit of controversy about the markings, as it is slightly out of my normal modelling comfort zone.

I would like to thank all of you that helped with this build along the way.
