Remember, the Mirage is flush riveted and has a smooth finish.  If the rivets show up its because of material differences.

The divots made by so-called riveting tools would be far deeper than the actual skin thickness itself if scaled up.

Wez's right about it, JM. I'd go very subtle on the riveting and panelling, all the more so if the scale is 1/72.

An old warrior, but more or less gives you an idea what Wez is telling you.

To be able to see the rivets on a real plane you would have to have extremely acute eyesight or stand very close to the aircraft. Even panel lines can be hard to see.

Agreed!  Rivets can show up on NMF aircraft, I can see them on the photo of the Mirage in post #2 but, and it's a big but, that's because they're made from a different material to the skin and therefore have a different colour and tonal difference in B&W, it's not because they're proud of the surface or, heaven forbid, a sunken hole in the skin!

Great shot and Argentinean mirages, thanks

Managed to fish yet another good shot; how about this one? Check out from how far one is still able to see the rivets on this one; panel lines as well.
