British Airtours Boeing 707-436

Recommended Posts

You might wonder why I'm starting this thread on the last day of the Group Build.....

Having finished one Boeing 707, the second is at the painting stage but won't get finished in time so thought it would be easier to have a separate thread to update as progress continues.

My intended livery is here https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=british+airtours+boeing+707&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwioyKjKnobeAhUMSsAKHfyiDjwQ_AUIDigB&biw=1920&bih=931#imgrc=GKoui0_dJjtexM:

Wings and horiz stabs are finished (Halfords Racking Grey), so next stages will be white, blue, red on tail, metallic on fuselage and finally coroguard and leading edges.

Another change of identity.

I had intended to use the fuselage "British Airtours" fuselage titles from my 707 sheet and the tail titles from a 737 set, but the red is an obviously different shade between the two sheets and the 737 tail titles are smaller than on the 707.  It doesn't seem worth buying another set of decals just to use the titles so an internet search has lead to this photo of G-APFD which served during early 1974, late 76 & 77 in a white / metallic livery without any branding on the tail: https://goo.gl/images/5dgSbX

Strangely during mid 74 to mid 75 at least it had the full livery with blue fuselage sides and red top tail - why??
