P-51D Mustang 2 Air Commando India+++FINISHED+++

Here's my entry to the GB. The recent new tool Airfix P-51D based in India so it ties in i think with the SEA (?) section.

The Mustang wasn't prevalent in the Pacific  until nearer the end of the war and was better known in the ETO. It is also rarer to see a Mustang with the Bazooka tubes, and according to references i have seen on the net this aircraft was definitively armed with them.

Box Top and scheme photos..

More to follow shortly, thanks for looking,

Cheers Greg

Nice choice Greg.

It certainly is an eye catching scheme and, as you say, the bazooka tubes are something different.

Cheers Craig,

The kit is supposed to be a good one so I'm looking forward to getting started. The markings make a change from the usual ETO stuff.

All the best Greg 😁

welcome aboard Greg and with a Mustang and in a unusual scheme!

I did quite expect to see a Mustang in the build as I didn't know they were used in the SEA theatre, but it sure nice to see one.

Good luck with the build, she's bound to be a great one to follow.

Hi Greg. I was looking at this kit recently so I will be interested to follow your progress with it. Good luck! 👍

Kind regards,

Stix

Hi Stix,

I hope my build helps you make your mind up about this kit. In the box it looks really good. I will post some sprue shots later.

Kind regards Greg😉

Hi Enzo,

Yes, I was surprised too. Particularly for India based machines. The P-51D was more widely used once the Islands closer to Japan were captured providing escort to the B-29 over the mainland.

I am looking forward to getting going. Now the AIrfix GB is finished.

Cheers Greg

It's a brilliant kit to build Greg!

The engineering is very clever like having no seam lines to remove in difficult place once the fuselage is joined!

Good luck

Joss

That's good to hear Joss.

I need a trouble free build following the Classic Airfix GB where the engineering is very 20th century. Needless to say there were many prominent seams to deal with too!

gee there's some nice detail in that model, will be interesting to see how she builds.

Hi RIch,

Yes the details are nice in this one. No need for even seat belts as they are provided.

Hi Greg, not my usual scale but I'm a big fan of the Air Commando's ops in SEA, so I'll keep an eye on this one. :)

Steve.

Hi Steve,

I will need to do a bit of reading up on this one as I don't have much knowledge of this theatre of ops.

Good afternoon Greg

This is not my usual scale but being a Mustang fan I will follow your build ...

Happy modelling

Cheers

Cheers Patrice,

If this one builds up as well as its 1/72 scale brother it will be a great build. Compared to Hasegawa and Tamiya examples it certainly measures up detail wise.

All the best Greg

Good morning Greg

As far as I can see on the photos of the sprues cutting off some parts like the control column should be more  easier with this one than with its little brother ..

Best regards

Patrice

Sorry Greg

I have been looking in on this over the last day or two. I should have remembered you are with us.

Well I got the white part of my markings on today.

  No worries Greg,

I kind of sneaked in at the end when the GB got going. Dunno how I missed it in the first place.

Just checked out your Zero and its looking good 😀

Keep up the good work.

Cheers Greg

Ah fair enough I've still not attempted a classic airfix kit!

One word of warning I found that the gun inserts needed abit of work! Could have just been me but just seemed the wrong size!

Thanks for the heads up Joss,

Plenty of dry fitting will help - hopefully.

Cheers Greg
