Badder
If I want to 'tag' a member in a post I use the '@Member's Name' function. However, of late, whenever I do that the screen 'freezes' and I am unable to add any more to the post. I can't even delete the 'tag' or edit the post in any way. Having said that, I have since found that If I submit the 'frozen' post and then immediately type a new post, that 'new' post is pasted onto the end of the previous post with the 'tag' in it. Whatever, the function isn't working as it should. Am I the only one suffering from this heart-rending, end of the world, calamity? Thanks in advance of some useful advice, Badder
Rob G
If you're posting on mobile, it's never worked well at all. From my proper computer it seems to be ok (or was, last time I used it). Indeed, the whole forum has become slightly mobile unfriendly, lots of little gotchyas to give pain. No useful advice to give, sorry Mr B.

Rob G
@Ratch This. And amazingly, it worked from my mobile.
Corsairfoxfouruncle
I use cellular and had a few issues earlier in the week. They've gone away after that day though. I wonder if they did a software upgrade, that might've caused a glitch or two.
Ratch
How did you do that @Rob G - Oh I did it
Badder
@Ratch Still can't type after typing '@Ratch Edited October 14, 2018 by Badder
Badder
Stupid thing. I typed '@Ratch' and then couldn't type any more. Again, I submitted the post, then created a new post. And it merged the two as directly above.
vppelt68
I too get the same "freeze" now and then. I found it best then to Submit the post and then re-enter to Edit it and finish what I was doing. So far the glitch has always vanished on the second try. Mike
Seems a bit odd - maybe it's your device getting its knickers in a knot about what you've typed? Are you hesitating after hitting the @? If you are, perhaps it's trying to load up the whole 23,000+ members in a list, which you could imagine takes a lorra lorra time If you hit the @ and quickly type as many identifying characters as you can, what happens to those of you that seem affected? If I do this on my PC, nothing happens after the @, but once I start typing again, then it goes into "hunt the member" mode, all very quickly done.

stevehnz
Hey, leave poor @Ratch alone, he'll get sick of all the notifications. Sorry Ratch, I must admit, I have less hassle with my phone than I do my Win 10 laptop. I've done several @member quotes today & reactions with no hassles, more than I can say for the laptop of late. I'm a very fast touch-typist, hence the sometimes overly-long comments! I will try it again here..... @Mike Funny. The screen hasn't frozen and I am able to continue typing. I will try Ratch... Maybe it's just his 'tag' 😁😁@Ratch Yep, that's working as well. I've not had any updates on my software, so I dunno what the cause was before. bhouse
@Badder @bhouse The only oddity I get is that having @'ed a member I then can't delete the tag I've just entered. As I will soon discover...

As I will soon discover... I had that too Brian. I couldn't delete it at all. So if the first thing I typed was @member's name, then that was it. I couldn't add to it, delete it, or cancel the post, So I had to post just the 'tag'. But as I said, @bhouse, it all seems to be working properly now. Not a problem, just curious... I don't really rate the phone/tablet for performing fancy things like this TBH. I frustrated sometimes if I'm trying to do summit clever on a big screen tablet, and remain convinced that for some tasks, there's nowt better than a desktop with a proper keyboard and touch pad (I think I might be getting old)

azureglo
If anyone is interested this is to do with JavaScript: more specifically which environment has been used to lovingly create the front end i.e this forum. I'd take a wild guess and say BM's forum software uses something called React which needs very careful implementation to play nice with mobile browsers and older desktopbrowsers. Oddly enough if your desktop browser is being erratic with features like this try updating your JavaScript. Google where and how to do it and look for a URL that says java.com not something for example like, www.superpornomalware.com/snagdoofus/gotcha.html.... 😉

Indeed they are and front end devs can mix an match as bolt off the shelf java components on to the pages, hence updating Java for those plugins can cure a lot of ills in buttons, galleries etc. The latency is known thing as there are renditions of any page/component that either draw on the local machine to process or call back to the server: My issue is the total lack of discipline in applying these so often the easiest option is to make the local machine do all the work, fine for a desktop not so good for a mobile . I'm nearly out of that side of UX but React is now so prevalent , every CIO makes up deployment rules as they go along, and this is before we get into Flux and React native... For those non techies, reading this gibberish, the skinny is web development teams tend to make up what they're doing as they go along, dont thoroughly test on all devices and browsers and often only build to the latest version of any device/browser because of a management cult called "Agile" and something truly terrifying called the Minimum Viable Product... google them and you'll be truly amazed that anything works at all. when I look at how web development is done I tend to think of Unicraft not Tamiya as an equivalent paradigm 😱
Mike
It's all good fun until someone loses an eye, and then it's hilarious! Javascript is the main language (along with php & MySQL) that's used in Invision, plus XML and obviously CSS. I can't think of any acronyms I dimly understand the names of right now, so you'll have to come back to me
