Beard
I'll be assembling the recent Airfix release as, the title says, either a RAAF 21 in overall Foliage Green or a RAF X in TLS over MSG as some Hannants transfers arrived today. I've made a start but haven't uploaded any photographs. Edited December 15, 2018 by Beard
modelling minion
Great choice of subject, and either colour scheme is excellent. Really must make a start on my 1/48 one!

Really must make a start on my 1/48 one! Thanks. Although I bought this sheet: because I'd read that the code letter on the Airfix kit is the wrong colour and intended to the 27 Squadron plane, I'm really tempted by the 31 Squadron RAAF one. I like the RAF and I like the RAAF one but which is best? There's only one way to decide... 4
johnd
I'd like to see the Mk.21 in Foliage Green, please. John.

LDSModeller
Just my Humble Opinion (but it's the RAAF bias) - "Foliage Green" That colour on a DAF Mk 21 Beaufighter is totally bad A$$ Regards Alan
Corsairfoxfouruncle
My choices would be the 27 Squadron from Burma in the Dk.E/Dk.Gr. But the Foliage one is a definite second place.

That's advice I intend to follow: I've bought a Bristol Brgand, a F4U Corsair, the Eduard Aussie VIII and, an AZ Hurricane IV; all but one of them is for this Group Build. See my reply to Patrice. The decision on what scheme it'll be is a little way away yet, here's the progress to date: interior painted with Colourcoats Interior Grey-green, given a Future/ Gouache wash and, dry-brushed with a light grey. Wings assembled (I've since added the ailerons) Engines painted with Humbrol 33 and dry-brushed with Metalcoat Gunmetal Fuselage and tailplane assembled Cockpit assembled I'm currently having a break from getting the cowlings to fit around the engines without too big a gap. Thanks for looking. Edited October 13, 2018 by Beard
trickyrich
nice start, and welcome along with this build as well. As Host you can almost guess my choice of scheme to do as well! You can never have enough Beaufighters.....though is this the first?

I think this might be the first 1/72 scale Beaufighter but there is a 1/48 one.

Beard
It's green! (But will need a few more coats of Colourcoats Foliage Green.) Thanks for looking.
zegeye
I think you can't build Australian Beau without any changes. They were different.

Yes, I understand they had .50 machine guns in the wings and a bulge in front of the windscreen for a Sperry (?) autopilot. The guns I can deal with, by filling the ejector ports and either painting them or making new holes. The bulge is more of a problem and one that I might have to deal with by ignoring. Unless anyone has a suggestion.

It includes: • Sperry Autopilot Housing • Frameless Observors’ Canopy • Mk.21 Instrument Panel • Wing 0.50 cal Blast Tubes • “Hedgehog’ Exhausts The Airfix kit has a spare observer's canopy, if it has frames then I'll sand them off, and what look like "hedgehog exhausts", if they ain't then I think I've got some in a Hasegawa Beaufighter, the 0.50 blast tubes I can probably do with Albion Alloys aluminium tubing, and I can live without the Mk21 Instrument Panel. That leaves the Autopilot housing. I think I might have a go at doing it with some Milliput.
trickyrich
mmm the most noticeable thing would be the bulge, you could probably do most of it with some plastic sprue? Get the general shape right then you'll just need a touch of filler to clean it all up.

Thanks for the suggestion, I think the wheel from twin-engined aircraft might work and I have some Barracuda Beaufighter wheels in the stash...
Beard
This build has languished while I struggled with the autopilot housing. I given-up and here it is: It'll need a couple more coats Foliage Green. Thanks for looking.
dogsbody
The little blisters on the upper inboard wing surfaces should be sanded off, too. Those were post-war additions. Chris
