No way ....

Some modelling, at last: before gluing in the outer intakes, I wanted to reproduce the two supporting rods that connect the front plate to the fuselage, as seen here (from http://nabe3saviation.web.fc2.com/waSry.html😞

wasry-26.jpg

so drilled two holes in them using a 0.4mm drill bit

seamless_intakes13

I'll cut the rods from the 0.4mm brass pipe you see in the above pic.

The starboard intake wasn't lining up properly, so I did put a tape shim on the fuselage

seamless_intakes14

After that was done, I could glue them in (using Tamiya Green Cap)

seamless_intakes15

seamless_intakes16

They both need a bit of filling and faring in, as you can see from this view

seamless_intakes17

seamless_intakes18

I left them to set overnight, tonight I'll start the fairing in.

Comments welcome

Ciao

Wonderful progress G. The cockpit details are especially good.  ETS eh. I might have to make one of those. 😃

Thank you Johnny   The ETS is a must-have, I've been using it ever since @Gene K talked me into it

Love this so far. Reminds me of my builds (apart from the level of skill, of course. In comparison, your build makes it look like the only tools I have available are a hammer and some garden shears 🔨)

It's just like the builds I do 'with the kids' - I spend weeks ensuring they are 'as involved as possible'. *

It's also just the same as the 'OOB' build I'm doing on the tank. 🤣

Now, where did I put the popcorn.

* you can do whatever you like - as long as you don't touch it. **

** fnar fnar

Thanks Matt, and welcome on board   I actually allowed my daughter to touch some parts of the model, she really assisted me at some point during the build - with a lot of caution, of course ...

Hi everybody!

Massive update today, I'll probably break this down in two or more posts.

First, I tidied up the intakes, doing some filing/sanding/ETS-ing and also some filling with PPP

seamless_intakes19

seamless_intakes20

The bottom side didn't require much work, actually:

seamless_intakes21

seamless_intakes22

Then I super-glued in the supporting rods, like this:

seamless_intakes23

cutting them to size with this tool

seamless_intakes24

and securing them in place with CA, that was later sanded and polished flat

5

Here's how they look like

seamless_intakes26

seamless_intakes27

Before gluing the tail fin in, I decided to add some depth to the panel lines in the elevons and pitch trims area, using a razor saw and a scriber

elevons_lines1

elevons_lines2

Then, for ease of masking, I decided to paint the tail metallic part before gluing the fin in

tail1

so I airbrushed AK Extreme Metal Steel straight on the bare plastic

tail2

tail3

tail4

While that was drying, I masked the windshield outside

windshield1

and inside

windshield2

Then airbrushed with Tamiya Flat Black

windshield3

windshield4

I then removed the inner masking and glued it in place, using CA gel

windshield5

windshield6

And eventually, glued the tail fin in (with Tamiya Green Cap)

fin4

fin5

Some job to do along this join (probably my fault):

fin6

fin7

fin8

Sleek, ain't she?

Anyway, after some sanding and PPP

fin9

fin10

PPP applied also around the windshield

windshield7

windshield8

Next post for the rest of the update

OK, she's now almost ready for prime, but I wanted to prep all the remaining bits and bobs before that, so here we go:

tail bumper and arrestor hook assembly, dry fit

tailbump1

I painted the actual hook with Model Master Titanium Metallizer

tailbump2

and glued the bumper to its door

tailbump3

Then I did dry fit the main struts; all good with starboard one

mainstrut1

not so much with port one ... :frantic:

mainstrut2

Not sure what happened here, but I had to do a lot of trimming on the mounting pegs to have it sitting straight.

Next is going to be some masking, then priming. Comments welcome, meanwhile

Outstanding in all respects, Giorgio!! :penguin:

I am reminded of a Carly Simon verse:

Nobody does it better
Makes me feel sad for the rest
Nobody does it half as good as you
Baby, you're the best

It would be  great if you could post a picture of you and your helper daughter with the Ford!

A brilliant idea for the splitter plate supports G,. It's the obvious thing to do, but I would never have thought of it.

Snap! That's exactly what I was thinking. It's easy when you know how.

All in all , looking good mate.

Simon.

Thanks Simon!

And thanks to you too, Matt  I learned watching builds here on BM that the little details can make a lot of difference in bringing a model to life - especially when you implement them following the "simple, yet effective" way ... 😉

Very nice and clean build!!!

The shape of this aircraft is so different and beautiful!!!

And you're doing a great job!!!!

Cheers Massimo, thanks! And I totally agree on the shape, especially thinking that it's an airplane from the '50s!

Giorgio,

That looks brilliant (literally). I assume you recommend this paint?

Absolutely! Superb finish, and you can airbrush it right out of the bottle (just shake it well first, as it says on the label), no thinner needed. It is, of course, enamel based, so care must be taken in terms of protection from fumes.

One bonus feature, that I could verify in one of my recent builds, is that you can also brush paint small areas (like touch ups) and it will self level nicely. I haven't tried larger surfaces (no need to, so far), but I'm curious to see what would happen in that case.

Really great build so far Giorgio, and seeing how that AK paint has gone on, I am very tempted to give that a try on my next metallic build.

Onwards!

I also bought some recently and now can't wait to try it.  I have also brush painted Alclad burnt metal and exhaust but not on bare plastic.

Go ahead guys, you won't regret it

Very nice Giorgio, she's looking great! :)

Thanks Ced

Last night I chopped off almost all the remaining bits from the sprues (tanks, pods and pylons) and glued what needed to be glued. Now the chore of removing seam lines from said tanks and pods ... :tired: No pictures though, I'll post some when I'm done.

Primer stage approaching fast ... :pilot:
