Hi everybody, getting there ...

Last night I removed the windshield masking and put the seat in place:

I've probably already said that, but that Alclad Aqua Gloss I used to dip the clear parts in really is some great stuff! And guess who talked me into that? @CedB of course, no wonder

I also glued in the gear struts and wheels:

onwheels2

This is probably the only real downside of this kit, since the front brackets of the main struts don't really fit into their slots, and I had to shave a bit on the side of the triangular sections to actually pose them in correctly. No big deal, though.

Look, she's on her legs! :yahoo:

onwheels1

I also painted the exhaust nozzle and turbine face (it's one piece, really): I airbrushed a base coat of Tamiya Flat Black, followed by Tamiya Gun Metal. Then a drybrush with Lifecolor Natural Metal and a black tempera wash

Then I inserted it in place (snug fit, no need for glue), but as I wasn't happy with the contrast with the surrounding area, I dirtied it up using Italeri Flat Black applied with the sponge technique

exhaust4

Not so visible, but that's the best I could do 🤷🏻‍♂️

That's it for the day, comments welcome

Ciao

One of my favourite USN jets Giogio and always nice to see a really competent build of one like yours.

CJP

You're too kind, CJP  It has indeed a sleek and attractive line, this little jet!

Yes, we are

Here we go: all the hanging out bits glued in with CA first and Tamiya Green Cap then to secure them in place

Pitot and canopy in place

Fitting the canopy was tricky - I had to shave off some more plastic from the back, as I already did prior to painting it.

Anyway, here she is

You can still see something of the interiors ...

I'm calling this completed. A proper RFI will follow in a few days, meanwhile all comments are welcome

I Googled this word so I hope it is right -  - perfezionare

CJP

Well, literally in Italian that means "to be perfected, to be improved", which is true, this is surely not my best work to date and there are many areas that need improving . But if you meant to say it's perfect (perfetto) ... it's not, but thank you, much appreciated!

Beautiful!

Not my interest area at all but still a very well excecuted build and a stunning model. So many jets look bland when modelled but this just has so much detail, even in areas where there is none and it's all achieved with paint and washes.

Cheers Ian, thanks!  So I take you'd vote for a 1/48 WWII propeller fighter for my next build?

Maybe that would be John's @Biggles87 vote too ...

If it's a Fiat biplane, absolutely! How about an Italian WWI aircraft? Baracca maybe?

I've enjoyed following this build immensely. The Skyray has a special place in my heart, the Hawk kit was my very first model as a young schoolboy. I have both the Hawk and Tamiya kits in my stash and one day I'm going to do a joint build of the two. Your build sets the bar very high and I can only hope to come close to achieving results as nice.
