A newly tooled Ju 88A-1/5 would make a nice addition for one of those dogfight boxings, together with a Bf 109E, Spitfire and other aircraft.

Also, there aren't any BoB Ju 88s available in 1:72.

I think Zvezda already do an A-5.

One thing comes to mind, that no-one seems to have mentioned yet is a Ju88 in 1/72. A new tool kit is the only thing missing from their BoB line up....??

One thing's for certain: Airfix will be over the moon at how much interest this thread's generated! Hi guys! We know you're reading! 🤗

Now on to 18 pages. This feels like digital version of a 'reverse-raffle' whereby everyone throws an idea into the hat in the hope that Airfix picks one 😜

Maybe that could even be the future of the hobby? Subject chosen by Tombola?

They might be reading but do they care/are able to do anything about it? I understand they might be under the pump money wise and so they will sit back on the safe subjects like Spitfires etc but at the same time that makes other manufacturers so much more exciting because they do come out with the not so obvious or popular choices. A real upset for Airfix would be another company coming out with a Vulcan or other classic English subject like an Avro Lincoln - Revell, Italieri, can you hear me??!!

Shackleton, Stirling,  Sunderland?  But then Airfix gave us Whitley, Wellington and a more accurate Shackleton

A truly hideous suggestion!

Imagine the paints you'd need to buy:

Humbrol 664 Radioactive Pink

Humbrol 665 Vile Yellow

Humbrol 666 Bilious Green

I didn't get a Whitley as I have an old Frog one which is enough for me, I don't recall the new tool Wellington, I do have the Airfix Shack and the Revell Shack AEW2. I was disappointed in Airfix's HE-111 for not coming with bombs and therefore didn't buy one.

So many subjects out there some of which have never been done by a major producer or not done for decades it just bores me to see another Spitfire that is all.

Like everyone else, they have limited resources, so whatever is chosen must perforce be at the expense of something else.

Can't remember anything much, recently, that was exciting from either Revell or Italieri.  If you want to have them notice, write in German or Italian.

But it doesn't come with decals for the BoB.

No, but all you need to do is clip the wings as at least three companies produce transfers for BoB A-1s.  And given the standardisation of Luftwaffe bomber markings of the period, I'm sure that you could put together examples of the A-5 fairly readily.  Not exactly supermodeller requirements.

I can't help feeling that a Halifax and Shackleton from Revell and a Stirling and Sunderland from Italeri all proved pretty exciting to members of this forum.  Given that three of these were the only kits of these subjects in 1/72 for 50 years, I think you have to be pretty specialised not to at least acknowledge them.

I like you, you are funny. An Avro Lincoln from Revell or Italieri, such an obivious hole in their current line-ups, in fact, an obvious hole in every manufacturers product listings....

the pigs may be fed and watered but they are still without their Pilots license....

But were the buying public aware of the amount of upset this caused Airfix !!!

Maybe it's too early here but I have no idea how to take that...

no, no, no, no, you are all so wrong; it will be a 1/48 Fairey Battle. First issue will be a standard bomber, later issues will include a Target Tug and a Canadian turreted gunnery trainer

I reallly like that, although I’d prefer to see the 1/72 scale Battle first as they’d be more chance of Airfix up scaling this to 1/48 after watching how many times the little one sells out.

Cheers.. Dave

I really think an accurate Battle would be an obvious addtion in the Airfix line-up when you consider the 1/72 RAF Golden Oldies they have released in recent years, Lancaster, Spitfire, Hurricane, Gladiator, Typhoon, Defiant, Blenheim, Beaufighter, Mustang, Fortress. Hunter, Meteor, Gnat, Vampire, J.P, Dakota with a Phantom and B-25 to come this year...

I would be happy with some downsizing of the Meteor, Sea Vixen, Mosquito, Javelin that they have obviously have the specs from the larger releases.

However, I really think a C-130 Hercules range would sell well for the business and MAY meet the requirement to the announcement be big.

Well, the 1/24 boxing would.

It's interesting, there are plenty of examples of them upscaling a subject (Gnat, Defiant, Ju87) but I can't think on one example in recent years where they have done a 1/48th subject then later a 1/72 of the same kit

One can't help wondering if Airfix themselves have been reading this topic for the past 19 pages....It'd be interesting if they were to put a comment that one of us is right...they don't have to say who obviously....

Personally I can wait another 16 days...but, then again,.......

How about one step further. Queen Elizabeth / Prince Philip Scalextric Bentley "Race and Chase" set.

For the laugh, possibly!

For some of the suggestions.....well, let's say Google (other search engines are available) has been running a 'little' hot at Airfix central

Just think of it as Christmas come early, only 15 guessing days left :wicked:

I'm told Airfix do follow Britmodeller.

However reading this thread must be rather boring as over 50% are 'off thread' being what people would like to see rather than anything Airfix are likely to tool.  Almost everything bar the Scruggs Wonderplane seems to have been mentioned.  A lot of the 'I know it would sell' meaning the individual would like it but without any further justification for the sales.

It will be aircraft (when did Airfix last produce anything else?) late 30's to mid Cold War.  1/24, -/48, or -/72.  Nothing else.

There's the mysterious subject near the US Pacific Coast, also said to be the largest subject yet subjected to LIDAR.  Rather self-fulfilling prediction as they wouldn't go all that way for something small even if it were to be rendered in 1/24.  Even so, there's no surety that it will be the Big Announcement.  Remember we had the Victor and B-17 in the same year.

But if the word 'big' relates to the announcement rather than the subject, then it could be a break with tradition and even be the 2019 releases!  I've a hunch on two subjects:  the 'Pacific Coast subject', US and in 1/72, and a much loved British Subject in 1/24.

There's no better venue than Telford for the big announcement: forget the Nuremberg Fair.  Whatever it is, the news will be around the world in minutes.
