Kris B
My attempt to match the colours. And more colours to choose. Maybe someone think one of those is better so please let me know. Edited October 16, 2018 by Kris B
sandros
All of them are Tamiya mixes? Very interesting! If i were you i would go for the midd tones and keep the rest for highlights and shadows.
Nikolay Polyakov
@Kris B, an instruction sheet provides you information about the color to use in both Zvezda and Humbrol palettes. You can convert the Humbrol ones to Tamiya and see what’s matched and what don’t.
Kris B
Thanks Nikolay. There is no direct match, but I hope I 'll get close to it. Managed to dry fit the pitot tube. It looks ok, but will secure later just before painting to not damage it. Elements of cockpit painted - nothing amazing.

Looks very clean and elegant, Chris 👍 Zvezda provides a very accurate cockpit details in this kit. Kris B
To be honest I am very impressed of this kit. All the elements fits perfectly, only one place is the end of the wings where they can design it slightly better. Hope I do not fail with painting.
exdraken
Nice build! Regarfing colors, keep in mind that the color also varies a bit with its base color...
Kris B
Thanks, the painting will be a challenge for me. But hope it won't be a tragedy. In the meantime I've finished cockpit and installed the canopy.

Kris B
Base painting done. I've corrected the medium grey on stabilizer below as was not strong enough and faded with the bright one.

I'm thinking of building this soon, as it is in the stash at the moment

Because the disc was white, and my primer grey i have to reduced in the middle colour XF-2 white from 10 to 5, and on the darkest instead of XF-65 field grey 1 I give 2 to make it more greenish.
thepureness
Kris that's not paint mixing, that's witchcraft. You need a cauldron to mix all that in. But thanks for the mixes

Ha, ha that's good. You always can buy MRP paints - they have ready colours. But I am using Tamiya and not willing to buy paints just for this model. They maybe not ideal, but in my opinion doing the job.

The issue with that is MRP is lacquer based and I'm spraying indoors
Kris B
Me to, in my wifes cave - kitchen. So With Tamiya I can get away, but any smelly paints are prohibited.
Kris B
Took me three days to do those declas.
Night Owl
That paint job is really nice like the tones and under tones. The decals look a little too fresh against the weathered aircraft skin did you subdue them on your finish coat? I am inspired to do a Mig 29 but I am looking at the Slovak digital camo in a 1:48 scale and PE the snot out of it see what Eduardo has. Look forward to seeing the finished plane, Cheers. Kris B
You right, their look to fresh. I thinking how to tone them down? When I do the vehicles oil paints and dust usually do the job.
Night Owl
Yeh perhaps a dusting with some charcoal I used it on the AV-8B and F-18 I posted instead of pre shading it would look great to do both. Check out this link the modelers technique on the engine is to die for. Fortunately he gave a step by step so I am going to try it. I did order the special edition Slovak Mig-29 with the digital camo. From all the video reviews the decals look ridiculous and are destin to tesr or self destruct. I think ill take some inspiration from you and custom paint it all from scratch. Here is the link http://www.modellversium.de/galerie/8-flugzeuge-modern/10905-mig-29-fulcrum-9-13-.html let me know your thoughts. Cheers
