Sorting out the observers station, this build will be closed up so its not going to be perfect

but a representation of what's inside, probably only a small amount will be seen through the windows.

Its the Revell part cut down and a few bits added, it will get glued in once one side of the floor is glued in place on the fuselage.

P1060527

P1060528

Still needs painting up yet of course.

I'm not procrastinating with the rear belts … honestly

Regards

Looking good Dan. I recognize that part above as the workstation in the rear cabin via the pictures linked previously, pretty cool. I have a question for you, maybe you can help me out with my F-15 build. Like an idiot, while trying out the different panel line tools I bought, and not having any templates to help protect from the tools jumping the lines, I now have a bunch of small scratches and gouges that I need to be rid of. Is there a secret to repairing those types of scratches? My problem is that once I fill the scratches with Tamiya white puddy, I have to rescribe the lines closest to the repair, and what do you know, it happens again. Very frustrating.

Thanks in advance, as always.

Super glue Anthony , use a needle to apply it and build up the glue in the area that you slipped on. It needs sanding back quickly or it will harden to much and the result will be a bulge .  Try and get some Dyno tape as that will help, never try free hand cause my experience says it will end in a mess ;)

A superb build... a fantastic demonstration of what patience and skill can result in. Will continue to watch this build with interest. Thanks for sharing the work.

May I suggest Tippex, I have tried it on small scratches and scribing mistakes and with it being easy to apply and rub back will not damage existing panel line. Give it a go, nowt to loose.

Nice work on that undercart Dan, very crisp and clean.

Tippex

Thanks for the tip, now I just need to figure out what that product is and the equivalent here in the Philippines. I have used the Tamiya white puddy for the first time in my life, and I am surprised at how easy it is to use so far. I just put the smallest dab on my finger tip, then smeared it on, after first masking off the panel lines I wanted to protect. While it dried (which happened quickly) any excess that did fill panel lines, was easily scribed. But I have to do a lot of sanding, which of course cuts the material down, and I can't keep doing this over and over in the same spot. The first coat of paint will also show me how off things really are, I fear that day. Tippex, I will look for it immediately.

Thanks,

Anthony

Philippines.

Wow! OK, sorry, I just assumed you were UK resident. Tippex is a writing correction fluid, white in colour and liquid in form. It cannot be scribed as such but can fill those shallow little slips leaving the other detail  intact. Maybe not a complete solution but worth having in your armoury. Good luck.

Sorry to ask so many follow-up questions, but I am so new to modeling, I am starting from.scratch. Once you lay down the fluid, can you sand it smooth, or do you have to smooth it while it's wet? Do you use just a finger tip, or cotton buds/q-tips?

Thanks again, sorry Dan, not trying to take over your build log.....

Likewise Dan, sorry.

Yes Anthony, very light sanding with a fine grade is what I do but you could also try various liquids to see if they work on a scrap model.

And don't worry, ask away, I am only to glad to help if I can.

Is that circle thingy a radar/sonar screen? Will there be a decal to represent the green sweeping arm with pings for subs/aircraft? That would be cool to see. It's the weekend, so looking for some big updates from you, and from me hopefully. No MotoGP race this weekend, so I should have plenty of time to work on my build and hopefully break out the airbrush for the first time. Wish me luck, I am going to need it!

Radar.  The sonar station was next to it, on the right - but removed from the HU5 (the specialist SAR version: all that war-like stuff is just extra weight in a rescue cab, so it’s removed).

Radar

So will it be represented via decal, or do you have to draw the line and blips yourself? I guess if the bird is in a powered down condition, it will just be black. If memory serves, you are going with a similar set up as the in flight over water diorama you build before. Or is that my brains wishful thinking?

Cheers for the likes and comments guys,

So this build will be on the ground, FOD guards and RBF tags on with the doors closed, so powered down

The Radar screen is good as is, my Ref material shows it to be a plastic type silver colour when not in use

so that's what I've replicated. The Revell part used for this is really suffering, its got some very clever sink marks

on some of the controls which I have left. didn't want to scratch the part as very little will be seen.

A quick oil wash, next will be a bit of detail painting

P1060544

P1060549

And as I'm now a week late I've gone back on the seats, more PE madness to add to these yet.

P1060546

P1060547

Enjoy

Out of all the Haynes manuals I have it’s one of the best , it covers 99% of what’s important to us modellers.

The PVA glue is still drying on the top seat straps, one dry I'll add a bit of shadow around these.

Cheers for looking
