Mitch K
After packing the gaps with chunks of plastic card, I used Milliput, smoothed out with wet tools, to give me my starting point.
Mitch K
The engine slips nicely into the cowling: Now if you look at the picture above, and compare the shape of the cowling, then look at the shape of the collector ring here.... You can see they don't match! What followed as a painful series of iterations of filling, sanding, priming, re-scribing details and checking until I was finally satisfied/sick to the back teeth of it and decided I was ready for some paint. I'm ready to shoot the underside silver dope now! The upper surfaces are also ready, but it's going to take a little while to get the mixes for the two Dutch upper surface colours done.
Beard
Looks like youve tamed it and have you considered Colourcoats? They do Dutch paints: https://www.sovereignhobbies.co.uk/collections/colourcoats-air/dutch
Brandy
Yup, that cowling was definitely NOT round! Nice butchering to correct it though, this should look great when complete, and certainly differant! Ian
Courageous
Alas, this is the world of modelling, especially when building vacform & limited run stuff. Good correction to cowling. Stuart
SoftScience
Wow, Mitch! This kicks butt! vacforms are like black magic to me. Never succeed. And usually end up unleashing unspeakable evil in the process.
Mitch K
Finally some progress! First, "Old Leaf" (Oudblad), reportedly very close to US Olive Drab. Olive Drab faded very significantly, and in all probability Oudblad was formulated similarly and would have gone the same way, had any of the aircraft lasted long enough to experience any weathering! Next, masked up for the "New Leaf" (Jongblat). The book is my treasured Methuen Colour Handbook, open at the page to match to 26E6-7! Jongblat, mixed from Tamiya. Underside, for reference.
Mitch K
I've had a bit of luck, and found somebody on Ebay selling some KNIL decals which arrived on Christmas Eve. Once I've got the house back to normal I can progress this - and build an undercarriage!
Mitch K
My claims of luck were over-stated: they're lovely decals, perfect condition, super register etc, except that they're the wrong size! My fall-back position is one of the KNIL sets that Kora decals sell. They're currently out of stock at the Big H, but I can wait!
