I have a Tamiya Dambuster/Grand slam that I bought in the early 80's that I need to get around to and this seems the obvious place to do it, so count me in please V-P

Never got round to doing it as I never worked out where I was going to put it when I finished it 😂

Most of us are trying to assemble two wings, so just one squadron shouldn't be too ambitious goal 😉. To be serious, just tell us how to follow the progress of your project. I really admire it.! V-P

1) when purchasing a new kit, have it shipped to your mother, and pick it up when it can be smuggled to home without swmbo noticing that (done that )

2) most kit boxes are large enough to house at least two kits. After all, it's the plastic we want, not the cardboard, right? (doing that atm )

3) one of your buddies must have a paypal account too - save cash little by little and then slip that to your trusted mate, who can then pay your purchases at webshops. (done that, too - both ways :coolio:)

4) should dear wife show any interest in your finished models, never ever teach her how to tell a Spitfire from a 109, Mustang from a FW 190 etc - that's the road to ****. One day she'll ask you the feared question "I thought you had only one of those..." No no, no way! (never done that mistake :yahoo:)

The alternative is to not get married.  ever.

Then the only limit on the size of The Stash is the physical constraints of one's dwelling.

Hello @vppelt68 .. Very much so. 😟 Even though im American, my all time favorite bomber is the Lancaster. Its killing me as of right now not to sign up. Sadly I have a personal moratorium on 4 engine types currently. I just have absolutely no place to store/display them. If that changes i most definitely will be joining.

That's perfectly understandable, you're excused . V-P

I'm tempted for this, but it will depend on the timing. I have the Dambuster boxing of Amodel's 1/144 Lancaster B.III. It's supposed to be the best 1/144 Lancaster available, but it is an Amodel kit.

Build it in 1/144 then it's only as big as a 1/48 fighter.

Oddly enough ... After i wrote that, i started researching that very good idea.

Here are some photos of the Amodel 1/144 kit. I've built several Amodel kits and have several more in the stash. Be aware you will engage your model building skills.

Does anyone know about the Miniccraft 1/144th Lanc. ?  m9w3Qkm.png

I do like the White Camouflage of the Tiger force. Is this similar to the amodel kit mentioned above or a seperate moulding ? Off to check scalemates and cybermodeler.

PS - Hmm totaly different molding for sure. The wheels, nacelles, and canopies don't look good. Now to see if my next budget infusion can afford one of the amodels and shipping from the U.K. Or europe ?

Amodel and Minicraft are completely different moldings. From my research, the Amodel kit is the best 1/144 kit. I have no info on that Minicraft kit, but my Minicraft experience has been the excellent Cartograf decals outshine the plastic.

  • 3 weeks later...

So we're seven names short of becoming a Future GB, great!

I like the music of Cole Porter, and one day maybe a week ago the words "Night and day..." lead in my mind to a Group Build idea. I knew the Lanc proposal is alive and kicking, so I thought I'd ask you here what you'd think about it. Maybe this could be done like some of the Mega-GB:s as DeHavilland + Mosquito, which was a success. To the point: Night and Day GB. The Allied combined bombardment campaign to defeat the Axis and its industrial heart. British by night, Americans by day. Little friends as they came along, from the early Spitfire escort reaching the Netherlands to Mustangs all the way to Berlin and back. The Jagdwaffe too, of course. German AAA and ground radar equipment, if that's your interest.

So how'd this sound for 2020? V-P

:hmmm:Wikipedia says: "The Lancastrian was basically a modified Lancaster bomber without armour or armament and with the gun turrets replaced by streamlined metal fairings, including a new nose section. The initial batch was converted directly from Lancasters; later batches were new builds." I ruled the Boeing 307 being eligible as a version of the B-17 in its current STGB. Thus it would be irrational of me to rule the Lancastrian as not. V-P
