A few weeks ago I went through my usual store for some paintings and saw it there, the profipack edition. The price for such an exquisite marvel was irresistible: € 20 including photo-etched interiors, masks for the dome and decals of all the stencils compared to the 25 plus shipping costs on the Eduard website. So I caught it. And as I see myself with desire and with a few days off I start the thread of its construction without having finished the model, as I have almost always by habit. The materials that I will use are: - Eduard's kit - Eduard Brassin's nozzle. - Pitted tube of Master Models in turned metal. - R-3 missiles with their launchers Eduard Brassin. - Supports of Eduard Brassin. - Paintings by Alclad, Vallejo M.Color and M. Air, Tamiya, MRP and Gunze. Varnishes of Tamiya, Vallejo and Marabu. - Plasticard and stretched plastic. - Documentation and references: Book MIG-21 Fishbed in detail, WWP. COCKPIT To the bathtub I added some cables with stretched plastic (green). If you see some points of color, it is because I painted it before directly on the plastic, but I did not like it and I removed it. After applying a base of white I apply the color of the interior. It is a mixture that I had to leave closer to the blue so that there was coherence with the color of the photoetched parts, but it should have a point more towards the green. If anyone is interested in the mix it has consisted of 3 parts of Sky Blue H-25, 1 part of Green H-26, 2 parts of White XF-2 and 2 parts of Blue H-45. But applied on white, if it is done on the dark gray of the plastic it acquires another tonality. Once I saw the result, I deeply regretted not having used the plastic parts of the kit with the relief instruments instead of the photoetched ones, but there was no longer any way to fix the pieces that would hold them both in the bathtub and in the bathtub. lateral The detail of the instruments in the equivalent parts of the bathtub and the sides to the photo-etched parts is practically similar to that of a resin and I could have painted them, so I could have used a mixture of color closer to the greenish tone that I really would have liked to use. The work of painting the small pieces is done with Vallejo M. Color or M. Air. The whole set is varnished with Vallejo satin varnish. NOZZLE The detail is excellent and the lace of the different parts photoetched / resin / resin rubs perfectly. Inside the pieces had a kind of ceramic coating of a color similar to the Russian green of antennas or wheels, although it was not a painting but a ceramic protection. I have painted it with the same MRP reference, but it has been lightened a bit due to the low internal luminosity of such a small and elongated space. The area of the petals has applied Alclad steel and the magnesium anterior ring, but they hardly differ visually. An oil wash, varnished in matt (not metallic) and ready to join and put in place. One is the gap between the rear of the cockpit and the dorsal part of the fuselage, which I make disappear using putty. The other problem is that in the part next to the HUD the "sandwich" formed by the photo-etched parts of the front panel of instruments is observed. I use a thin sheet of tin, which I let it protrude a few tenths of a millimeter from the instrument panel. Andrés S. Posted January 30, 2019 Author Share Posted January 30, 2019 (edited) Hi all, thanks for your comments. We continue. I have placed some dynamic air intakes on the back of the fuselage. I have cupped them by turning the tip of a new cutter. The front part of the fuselage, under the cockpit, has two fins. In the kit they come thick, as is logical, and in the photoetched set they also come but these have the disadvantage of having to be stuck with cyanoacrylate. Also in photos it is observed that to screw them to the fuselage the base of the fins were bent to serve as support and fastening. The fins have been made of 0.2 mm plasticard refining them a bit and taking as reference those of the gravure, for its base since it is impossible to bend the plasticar with that degree of accuracy I have stuck some small plasticard strips of 0.13 mm. The leading edge of the air intake for the engine is somewhat coarse as it comes in the kit. To tune it I used a lime-shaped file on the inside and then rolled sandpaper 600,1200 and 2500 grain. Finally I polished it with kitchen paper, since it will also be in natural metal and no scratches should be seen for small that are. And the radar radome. I have made some screws, but they really are many more and it is what has to do things from memory instead of constantly checking the photos. The green is the reference MRP-23 for wheel rims and areas related to antennas. The back is Olive Drab H-304 from Gunze. For the metallic of the tip I have used Vallejo MA to brush. Cheers. This piece in reality does not have panel lines but welding cords but I have decided to change it and redo it to panel lines for two reasons: - The first and main because these cords were reproduced somewhat thick and also did not match in thickness those on one side and those of another when I sinned the two pieces that form it. - Secondly so that there is agreement with the general appearance of the model. It is painted with Alclad Polished Aluminum and the paneling is whit a mixture of black oil and toasted sienna. Cheers. P.D.- As a curious note to mention that the most pointy part of the deposit is the front, unlike the fuel tanks that to date I have seen in western planes. I have painted the "radioelectric" zones with the same MRP reference as for the radar cone, and subsequently I have masked them. I have also painted the windshield with the interior color of the passenger compartment. Well, the model fell to the ground and suffered a break. The aileron was solved by cutting at a right angle and sticking a portion of evergreen. I applied Tamiya putty diluted in acetone and sanded gently with 1200 sandpaper. It remains to do the same with the repair joint. I also painted the end of the fuselage with Alclad Steel and Aluminum. This will have to be repaired because the Steel was raised with the Tamiya tape to paint the Aluminum. Cheers. To the dome I have applied the color of the cockpit both outside and inside, using the masks provided by the kit. However, the small mask for the mirror has been forgotten. It has to be done with a tiny rectangle of Tamiya tape. For the metallic one I have decided to use aluminum from Alclad. Later I will apply another metallic tone in the corresponding panels, but this metallic will be the general for the whole plane. The wheels have applied the reference of MRP and H-77 of Gunze, with a smooth application of XF-55 very diluted in the tread of the tire to which previously I have done the grooves with a mini saw.
