Westland Whirlwind Fighter - Finished

Hi all

I have a few on the go after I caught the gotastartalotofkititus virus .  I have finally started my first Classic Airframes Kit.  I bought the kit on BM as a Part started kit as below

The Cockpit is the kits supplied resin one and really is very detailed

The kit was missing the seat mounting frames and I will be making those shortly following some measurements from a fellow BMer.  The rudder pedals were broken so I added a simple bar and pedals and two levers from brass rod

Drilled the top Cannon mounts and added fairings to the lower ones made out of cut hollowed sprue as per Moa's method on one of his amazing builds.

The cut out the tail area for the clear housing for the aerial wire and replaced with clear sprue

I am also building a Special Hobby 72nd scale Sea Fury T20 at the mo but have not got anything worthy of photographing yet and I have started rigging my long term 32 scale Tiggie so have a few on the go now..

Thanks for looking

I found one of these earlier this year so I'll tag along for the ride.

That cannon fairing mod and clear piece in the tail are noted and will be used!

Thank you both.  I appreciate your kind comments.  You are most welcome to tag along.

Christer it is actually quite a  nice kit so far. The cannon fairings really add to the look of the nose and weren't too much work.

All the best

Hi All

Whilst waiting for the electrician this week I have managed a bit of modelling.  I have made the seat mounts following a kind Bm'er sent me some photos of the kit ones against a ruler.  Thank you Scott (@Jinxman) your photos were very helpful indeed.  I have made the armour plates behind the seat from plasticard and used the kit seat belts on the back of the seat and some Eduard lap belts .  I have stuck the cockpit in on the Whirlwind and am really pleased with it.  This allowed me to mount the wings to the fuselage and a small amount of filling carried out and this is where I am at the mo.

Hi All

Managed a little more on the Whirlwind some filling around the nose to wing joint and added the gun camera and cartridge case collector housings and cut out the vacformed Canopy successfully although broke one of the sliding sections but the other is okay.  Here it is in place, this has only had one coat of interior green.

Probably a bit modern for me but I've always liked the look of the Whirlwind. Very nice work going on here.

Thanks Marklo, it's certainly a great looking machine.

Got to love a Whirlwind.

And it’s about time someone gave us a 1/48 version of its later rotary-winged namesake...

Oooooo yeah certainly agree with that. Thank you.

Thanks Guys

I have managed to do a bit more on this one with the white sections now done and I have added the underside colour.

I have also quietly been working on this little distraction, an Airfix Ragwing Hurricane, which is a very nice little kit

Looks like a nice kit and the build looks smashing! It looks reminiscent of the Me262 in some of your in-progress shots.

Regards,

Adrian

Thanks Adrian, it's a nice kit to build and does look good. I can't wait for the 32nd Special Hobby kit, I think that will be awesome.

Very very neat paintjob!

Thanks Christer, it has been a bit of a so and so to get on due to the building work going on, so despite how clean I try to keep it the always seems to be some bloomin particles that find their way onto the model.

Thanks for looking in

All the best
