The 3rd Placer
Iv'e been working on this kit from Special Hobby. First up are some engine shots; it builds up from resin and PE parts. I added 50+ some scratch parts like valves, rocker arms and spark plugs. Morane by The 3rd Placer, on Flickr Morane by The 3rd Placer, on Flickr And here painted up, weathering consisted of Tamiya Dark Brown panel liner over a Vajello Aluminum base coat. A fine toning of the Tamiya product shot though the airbrush tied things together. Morane by The 3rd Placer, on Flickr Morane by The 3rd Placer, on Flickr Thanks for looking, more soon. The 3rd Placer
Onto the cockpit I tried something different in assembling most of the structure then detail painting afterward. I left out the seat and scratchbuit floor till later. Morane by The 3rd Placer, on Flickr After the main colors where painted via airbrush, detail painting could start, decals by Airscale. MS Type N by The 3rd Placer, on Flickr Side walls painted up. Morane by The 3rd Placer, on Flickr Morane by The 3rd Placer, on Flickr And finally all tied together. The 3rd Placer
More progress shots. Tail skid surgery.... The tubular structure was missing a leg so i replaced it with scrap rod. I found it to be a little off center so I cut down (2) of the legs to recenter at the correct angle. Worked out great. The 3rd Placer
Moving onto the landing gear and V structure mid fuselage I need to give credit to the kit designer, they all lined up very well with no jig needed. The 3rd Placer
Also got some PE work done on the tail, but a luck would have it I lost one of the control horns! My technique for apply small PE varies but in this case it was a swabbing of Tamiya extra thin to soften the plastic and allow me to "plant' the horn in place. The wet plastic will give you enough time to position the part at the precise angle you need. To set the part I use cut down mini brushes and extra thin super glue. The 3rd Placer
I managed to get the tail suck on, but before I did that I notched out a landing spot for the rudder horns. This way after painting and decaling they would have a nice recessed area to glue to. First up was drawing the line, I kept symmetry on each side by using a piece of tape to hold the mark a determined distance equally on both sides. Morane by The 3rd Placer, on Flickr The notch was made with a scribing tool to accept the previously measured horn, Morane by The 3rd Placer, on Flickr And the result after cleanup. The 3rd Placer
Drug this off the shelf of doom and completed some more work. Wings are a little chunky but the plastic is easy to work with. The 3rd Placer
The rear cockpit shroud did not fit that well, I resorted to putty and new rivets via the UMM beading tool. Pics tell the story, It's not perfect but does match the limited run softness of the rest of the kit. 1/32 Morane Type N by The 3rd Placer, on Flickr 1/32 Morane Type N by The 3rd Placer, on Flickr 1/32 Morane Type N by The 3rd Placer, on Flickr And the the new rivets.... 1/32 Morane Type N by The 3rd Placer, on Flickr 1/32 Morane Type N by The 3rd Placer, on Flickr 1/32 Morane Type N by The 3rd Placer, on Flickr 1/32 Morane Type N by The 3rd Placer, on Flickr 1/32 Morane Type N by The 3rd Placer, on Flickr 1/32 Morane Type N by The 3rd Placer, on Flickr And some prime and paint... 1/32 Morane Type N by The 3rd Placer, on Flickr 1/32 Morane Type N by The 3rd Placer, on Flickr 1/32 Morane Type N by The 3rd Placer, on Flickr 1/32 Morane Type N by The 3rd Placer, on Flickr Ryan
