Caravelle Airfix 1/144

Hi Rob,

The effect you got with this foilis absolutely outstanding and this kit is a gem!

If I may, I'd like to make a suggestion  for  the base and in particuar the runway's white lines .

To improve the moving effect, I'd mask the sides of the white line and spray again by fading it at the ends. I used this technique for my F15C and was qhuite happy with it. Even the effect of the tyre's rubber deposits on the runway are obtained by airbrushing various shades of grey parallel to the line.

Congratulation again for your Caravelle!!!

Thanks for that @massimo I see what you're saying...

Sorry @Sonoran, I can't quite figure out what you're thinking...?

So @DMC..."What is the sound of one Flap flying...?

I made the mistake of wondering around the LMS yesterday, it's a great source of distraction I'm afraid.

I remember building several of the Airfix trackside kits to make something of my very simple Trix Train set.

And the one that I best remember is this little guy....

And I also recall walking past a little furniture makers factory regularly on the way to school, and they had one!

I was thinking, even then, what a great wee machine.

So pleased that Dapol are still turning them out.

Just had to get one, 😎

Maybe I can park it beside a DC3 or something....

Anyway....  Flaps and spoilers.... Let's have a look.... Focus, man. Focus.....

Right, @massimo, just had a look through that RFI......

WOW!

Seriously good looking F15.

And the base does look great.

Wondering if you have been back to LN recently, or made contact with them.?

The main reason is that I took some interest in a Lockheed T33 at the Tangmere museum, and used it a lot for reference for a build.

This year it's gone, and I think gone to Lakenheath, maybe to be a gate guard...?

The plane had a confused history, but still carried the Statue of Liberty emblem on the tail,

... and the emblem on your base reminded me of the connection!

Just wondering if you have seen or heard of it on your travels there?

hI ROB,

I haven't been there for a while and don't really know. At the gate there's an F100 as a gate guardian, bat that's all. I don't think they would chose a T 33, bt yu never know...

Hi Nikolay, and thanks.

Glad you're enjoying it!

It's been a bit of a stop/start building process, and it does fall to the bottom of the WIP listing sometimes.

Can I persuade you to have a go at an airliner project...!???

Or have you started something new already?

Sure thing, it’ll be interesting! I think I’ll build something from VEB Plasticart someday - it’s something from my childhood 🙂 But I know nothing about a civil aviation 🤔

Yes, another thing from the past:

Thanks Rob! 🤝

Lotta time pressure at the moment, I'm afraid, but I manage to get a bit done now and then.

We have TWO flaps..!

And they are a fairly good match for each other. Very easy to get a different angle of deployment on them.

So the overall appearance of the pose is gradually coming on...

I have done one of the underwing airbrakes, port wing.

That was easy-- it just hinges straight to the wing surface along the front edge.

The top ones, on the other hand, are going to take some figuring out.

There's no way I can recreate the perforated structure and edges of the spoiler.

Definitely require all the intricacies of a very good photo-etch brass piece.

But I'll come up with some kind of 3legged panel to stand up in position.

December already..... Tsk

Nice one, Rob.  I should be able to post something on my 727 soon.  I’ve done the #3 engine pod and penciled in the fuselage panel lines to be scribed (into the primer only).  Also started plugging in the windows on the Airfix 272 I picked up at Telford.  Slow going, however.

would this be of any use/help to you in your photo etch issue ?

Well, that is a fascinating read, and impressive bit of determination and skills, but the short answer to your question is.... No.

One day, maybe.

But that is way out of my comfort zone. That's looking like a whole other hobby in itself to me!

I have bits that I'm fiddling with---

I'll put up a picture....
