F-4M/K Phantom II - Matchbox 1/72

Recommended Posts

F-4K & M are the American designations for FG.1 and FGR.2, I don't know the details but there was a proposed F-4L variant in between powered by Speys for the US Navy.

What? Page 3? Where's the... never mind. Since it's almost finished ( it must be, it was started yesterday!) I'll just sit at the bar (oh, wait, I already am) and have a beer.

Mum, MUM, they're being mean to me!

Oh shut up and man up, big boys don't cry.

Ahem :weep:

Incidentally, can anyone who knows more about Tooms than me (so that’s most of you) explain why they went F4-K F4-M?

What happened to F4-L?

Perhaps 4-L was a bit close to 'for hell'?

But, but, in the photos they look… oh well, soon sorted - thanks guys :)

See Ced, that's what you get for not building it oob & wheels up....!!!

Keith

Thanks Keith - I know eh? Cuh! Tough crowd…

Welcome Ian (posted as I was typing this response) :)

Closed up:

Nothing in the instruction about the little side windows and yet here they are on the sprue (or whatever it's called):

43075553490_d5d6ab0899_n.jpg 44167197924_2c6cf5d090_n.jpg

Oh well, that'll come in handy for future builders to note. :headbang:

I shall try to insert them with various tools sometime in the future.

U/c legs white eh? Hmmm. Luckily the AK comes off with white spirit:

43075474810_aa92f48ece_z.jpg

Leaving the chrome on the bits that slide up and down. Are they called oleos? If not, what are oleos?

Of course an alternative way of cleaning off the AK paste is to rest the part carefully on the bench and knock the bottle of white spirit over it:

43975390375_52f4bbcef0_z.jpg

Very effective, but not recommended.

Anyway, the ejector handles wouldn't have looked that good:

43975603385_ae0b4b092c_z.jpg

So nuh. :bleh: In the bin with it, OOB.

It's been one of those days…

I was trying to find some pics of 864 / 007s journey to Ulster & found this nice link

are you sure it’s a matchbox kit? Doesn’t look very 2 tone plastic to me...

Crikey, faster than a speeding bullet Ced, only just logged in and it's already on page 3! I enjoyed the other Matchbox Phantom I built, it's in Tollerton at the café. You got my duplicate. The MB kit is sparse on detail but a nice quick build and it looks pretty good, you can do so much with a good paint job; as others have proved. (mine was a bit crap in all honesty😝).

So, this Bodyguard thingy? I've heard everyone go on about it but is it worth watching? Missed it entirely, is it on catchup?

Edit: Cor! It's on iplayer for the next 5 months. I shall watch and learn... 😎

Blimey page 3 already, I’ll have to watch from the back.  Flippin Moroccan wi-fi.  I remember building this one as a lad, couldn’t decide between the centre line tank or the recon pod (which looked kinda cool) so I didn’t use glue and just alternated between the two.

Simon (Beard) - just for you I think I'll build it wheels and hook down and hang it as if it's trying to slam into a tiny, uppy downy strip.

First PC makes a Spitfire XII then you do a kit with its undercarriage showing. Time for a cup of brown joy to celebrate...

Ced, you are more lazy than you should be!!!  0,5 mm for 1:48 and 0,3mm for 1:72 in scale. Just a bit of a bent floral wire "Blumendraht" AND  everything looks somewhat professionell. You  just have to paint it in yellow/red or black or whatever you feel confidend with! Cheers and a good night. Benedikt

Thanks Phil, especially for the kit! :) I won't be using the AM decals - let me know if you'd like them back :)

Bodyguard - yep, peak audience of 11m people can't be wrong… can they?

The little windows:

44168287464_3146b266ca_z.jpg

… are little enough to go in through the front:

43076714220_2f581cdced_n.jpg 44889188081_47e9bbda18_n.jpg

… with small gaps around the edges filled with CA on one and Gator's Grip on the other.

What is it with me today?

44176755524_d0d7790571_z.jpg

NOT the way to apply TET, I don't think. By the time I'd taken a photo of that this had happened:

43984767005_736167cb3a_z.jpg

Like one of those body shapes with the chalk around the outside... the scene of the crime.

Luckily nothing went on the model:

43085149820_d885205fa6_z.jpg

… except where I wanted it. Another step complete.

Wanna check out the nose?

Just for you Phantom Phans.

I'm off to bed now before the TET fumes get me and there actually IS a chalk outline on the floor.

Nite all :)
