Beach Party! Buggy through the Night!

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I haven't posted here before, but having just finished a Supermarine Scimitar ...

...I decided to make 'Something Completely Different' to quote Monty Python! :D

I've had this kit in 'The Stash' a couple of years now, so I thought it was time to put some glue to the plastic!

This is once again supposed to be a fun project, so I don't want to go overboard with detailing etc. - ....just a little bit! :innocent:

Cheers :bye:

Good choice, we could use a bit of summer vibes right now...

And a brave choice too, Hans.

I think it's quite a valuable kit on the collectors market.

I remember making one when they first came out.

I think it ended up metallic yellow.

Nice to see one being built again.

I too build thins one in the '70es but my assortment of paint wasn't that large, so I painted it light matt grey!

I know it's quite a rare kit these days (allthough not as rare as the 'Bond Buggy'!) but it was always my plan to build it - maybe put it in some sort of diorama....? :hmmm:

Oh yes I remember it, well obviously because I didn't indulge in any LSD.

It was of it's time.

If you can capture the moment in time it would be brilliant.

The main parts have been prepared for painting: :D

I plan on moving the girl's left arm a bit up and to the left so as to better mimic the boxart. :D

But...the most serious decision is yet to come: What colour to paint the girl's bikini? :hmmm: I may have to ask my wife!

So! Couldn't wait so this morning I sprayed a matt white basecolour and tonight I sprayed the first layer of orange! :yahoo:

I really don't have much experience with building cars and spraying gloss colours, but my plan is thus:

1) 1 white basecolour (check)

2) 1 light coat of orange (check)

2a) let it dry thoroughly

3) sanding the orange back

4) 1 light coat of orange

4a) let it dry thoroughly

5) very light sanding followed by

6) polishing

How does that sound to you master car modellers? :hmmm:

Anyway a little picture:

Let's see how this goes down, shall we?

So! Just to show that one can teach an old dog some new tricks, here's one I picked up on a danish modellingsite. :D

But first a little update:

One thing about that orange is that it is very 70s.

I was there … I nearly bought an orange Alfasud in 1978...

Yes - that's how I remember much of the '70es! That was a colourfull decade!

And the ultimate question was: Sweet or Slade! (Ducking for cover! )

For me, Slade and Sweet were both good but not as good as Queen.

... and my brother had at least one Alfasud - but rusty white rather than hippy orange I think.

Hi Nick,

I missed out on the orange one, but bought a Silver Alfasud. I can even remember the registration number: VFB 681 T

Cracking little motor. Only 1300 cc, but it handled like a dream.

I wonder what happened to it (probably a pile of rust many, many years ago)

Cheers, Alan.
