Academy P38J Lightning

Recommended Posts

Hi All

Just put the finishing touches to this one, Academy's P38J Lightning. Excellent kit in its self and used the Eduard Big Sin etch set (excellent), Master metal barrels (excellent) and Blue Riders Decal (not excellent), done as a Chinese Nationalist aircraft. This was 95% done ages ago but didn't fit the gear door or canopy so these were fitted this week. As stated the Academy P38 is an excellent kit and went together pretty well, the join between tail booms and wings was a little tricky to get right but not impossible to get right. The Big Sin Set was the nicest etch from Eduard yet used and improved the cockpit, wheel bays and vents. The Blue Rider decals were a pain and would not settle and the first few placed would not adhere to the paint so I won't use those again. Paint is all Tamiya acylics, silver pencil for chipping and a black oil wash to finish.

I rather like that, nice to see a different scheme on one. I was chasing on of these the other day & they're well nigh unobtainium just now. :( I'll enjoy yours while I await a re-release.  :)

Steve.

I would love to get hold off a few more, probably the best P38 in 1/72 but as you said they are hard to find. I now have several foreign user aircraft now, P51 in Hondurian colours, Spitfire mk9 in Egyptian and P39 in Portugese markings. More intresting than just oob
