Trainers GB, We're on! - Chat

@JOCKNEY, brother I'll be lucky if I can just get the one build I want to do in. I'm still going to school and I've got the two spawns I helped create to take care of haha! But no seriously, I wanna do either an F-106B, an A-7K/L, or an F-100F. Only one!

I have a two seat Hunter that I was going to do as a 111 Sqn Black Arrow aircraft from the 1960’s anyway. I am not sure if that would qualify as though it’s a trainer type the actual aircraft concerned was more used for display flying.  At least I imagine so.

Wont be upset if does not qualify, honest

An aerobatics/ formation / ;) displayteam trainer??

Apart from that, 1/72 seem the scale of choice in this GB .... hmmm :(

Need recommendations from the members...

Have to order an Air-Graphics item, but wondering if there are any other distributors of this brand?   Am excluding AviationMegaStore, as their shipping prices are exorbitant.

Jack

Hello RoB and welcome back

I wait a your signal , a small summary:

Hello Rob

I read both notices; the L-39 Thay is of 101 Sq. passed at 401 and marks  are of this last squadron. But are eligible an Algerian and a czech airplane.

L-29 Tiger meet airplane is at limit, but the slovak is good. If  you have time, you can read the notices on Eduard web site.....

I have also a third option: a Fouga Magister CM 170 Zephir   1/72 Special Hobby kit; this machine was used to training pilots to landing French carriers

Ettore

first choice L-29 Tiger meet, is always a plane born as a trainer
second choice a Slovak L-29
third choice a CM170 Fouga Magister

My apologies Ettore, I clean forgot about your dilemma.

As provided in the (just posted) rules, Tiger Meet marked aircraft aren't eligible - I decided on that rule to simplify things along the lines of the display team rule. The other 2 should be ok, as long as they belonged to training units or are shown as trainers if they were used by combat units (if that makes sense). I'll trust that you will make an honest decision.

@Rob G well, I do have an italeri Jaguar T2 that I got as part of an ebay bundle, suppose I could build that instead, actually on that note, where is the line  on twin seat versions, I just got myself a twin stick saab grippen would that also count?

The Jaaag T.2 works, and as long as you make the training version of the Gripen, that will be fine too - the JAS-39D can also be configured as a 2 seat 'special mission' aircraft (according to Wikipedia), so I'll trust you as I'm trusting Ettore.

This,  in turn, has jogged my memory too Steve. It made me remember that close by (closer than the PT-19 I was thinking of doing), I have a nice Aeroclub kit of the MB 339.

That in turn led to a little search on DuckDuckGo (I don’t use that big Googly thing anymore; they know too much about my turnips).

Gotta hide them turnips! An MB339 would be most welcome!

I think I would like to participate in this GB. I have a few kits that qualify;

Su-22UM3K

Mig-15 UTI

Me 262B

Type 11a U boat

Mk VC spitfire (post war).

As long as you can show that they're used in a training role or with a training unit, they're welcome.

Thanks for signing me up, I'll now follow that with a question. Would your subject still count if it was a training unit throughout it's life,

except when its was briefly called to front line service? - that subject being an 899 NAS Sea Harrier.

As long as the aircraft is depicted during its time with a training unit, it's completely fine.

Put me down for an entry please be a while before I can start  but probably something Harvard shaped in 1/48 scale.

Something Harvard shaped - the mind boggles! Let's see what you end up with.

What say thee gang? While the T.2/4N are obviously training machines are we all happy enough to see the single seat 'sports' model as well?

As I've noted above, if it's shown as doing time with a training unit, it's welcome. Even if it IS an unnatural subject (sailors in aircraft, how wrong is that? You lads in the Andrew wouldn't like a pilot on your bridge, would you?)

Let's not have any of this 'only one' malarkey. If you list 'em, you gotta do 'em all!

:D

The 2 seat Hunter is fine, but not in display team colours. Sorry. (I'm glad that you're not upset about it, and I do hope that you can find something else to join us with.)

Right, I think that that's me all caught up - here's to a great GB and everyone (even me!!) finishing their entries in time. If I've failed to address a point of concern, PLEASE let me know ASAP and I'll do what I can to sort it.

No problem Rob, perfectly understand.  I could see the fly in the ointment myself when asking.  I have a two seat Lightning in the stash to do sometime.  It would come in 111 Sqn colours so a line unit but used for check rides I imagine.  That do?  Or is that another fly in the Nivea? :D

Would that be a Tub of Nivea?? :D

2 seat training types on line squadrons are usually used for check rides and proficiency training, so I'll accept your Lightning with pleasure. Always a treat to see my favourite jet aircraft being built, even if it is the fat version.

That Fouga looks very nice indeed. Not that I would by trying to twist your arm at all .

All of them really are great subjects, looking forward to seeing you build the F... erm, one of them 😁👍.

Best regards

If you dont mind my saying, this would make for the most interesting build. I think its probably the only kit ive ever seen of the type.

Would aircraft of Zirkus Rosarius qualify? They did tour front line airfields in order to familiarize Luftwaffe pilots with allied aircraft as well as train them in their weakness' and how to combat them.

What's the verdict mate?

Apologies for the delay. After a bit of a chat, we've decided that seeing as the unit was used in an educational role, we'll allow your entry. Welcome to the GB!

For anyone contemplating something similar, PLEASE contact one of the hosts to check on eligibility before you start.

Cool. I will start with my Spitfire and move to something bigger with the Zirkus.

So if I read correctly a single seater aircraft would be eligible as long as served in a training unit... I recently managed to buy a G.55 for cheap, that itself was not a training aircraft but was the basis for the Merlin engined G.59, for which I have an old resin conversion... all single seater G.59s in Italian service were used for advanced training only, so one of these would be eligible, right ?

also a vote for the HA-200B, when making the Kinetic Fouga, dryfit, sand, dryfit, sand, and then maybe glue... and check your references, all is in the kit, but nothing is mentioned in the instructions for the different versions... so it's just comparing references with the sprueparts to find the right parts...
