Partly inspired by Airfix's recent releases (Vampire, JP, Gnat etc) and partly because I'm a bit different, I propose a GB dedicated to trainers. Modern military aircraft are the obvious majority here, but there's armoured vehicles dedicated to the role as well. A bit of lateral thinking will also lead to civil driver training school cars, as well as civil air schools for both private and commercial pilots. This could include simulators for thems as feels like some scratchbuilding! There's probably other subjects too.

I'd encourage entrants to think a bit 'out there', and be a bit different, I'd hate to see a slew of samey same subjects, and I think that WHIFS can probably be excluded too. Anything not obviously a trainer will need some sort of evidence based justification, even if it's just a caption from a photo in a book.

Remembering that this probably won't happen until 2020 at the earliest, what say you all?

Yeah, ignore the above - this GB is a go, 16 Feb to 9 June 2019

Good choice, that sound like a different one to the normal Camo.

Always fancied an excuse to build a 2 seat lightning

I quite fancy that seeing some of the recent builds on here

Stick me down please :)

I ran the same GB a few years ago now. Nice to see Part II being suggested.  I could be interested. Have lots to choose from.

Be silly not to add my name to some of the GB regulars already above. Ok, I'm a fan of a splash of colour or a hint of dayglo so put me down for a couple of builds at the very least. Now how nice would it be to be graced with a new tooled 1/72 Harvard??

Cheers.. Dave.

I have a Miles Master kit which would be just the job for this GB. Optimistically I’m in.

Great idea, I took part in the last one with a Percival Proctor.

First kit i had built in years...... and it looked it ! ;)

Last time the diversity of builds was amazing, please add me to the list.

Now what to choose :hmmm:

Miles Magister

Miles Master

Hawker Henley

Arado Ar96

FW189 B-0

Cheers Pat

I seem to have quite a number of training types in my stash so I'd be pleased to join in on a GB.

Cheers

Thank you to all, most impressive turnout. Halfway there! I better start a list in the first post, eh? Welcome to all!

@Paul J, I looked to see if it had been done before but didn't find owt - nothing new there, I am terrible at finding things on here. Glad to have you aboard!

Indeed there is, and I had a look at it. Before I proposed the GB however, I couldn't find anything.  <shrug>

Add me, I am sure I have something run of the mill in the stash and I hope to find something 'out there' as well.

I assume twin seat fast jets like the Mirage and Hornet are acceptable in training unit markings?

Hello @Rob G Quick question would a Simulator like this be included. This is a 737 Trainer. Though they are made for just about every type from Cessnas to 787’s

Ndp3U85.jpgheres the Interior.

Im not sure if I would do this ? However if its an option it might open the build up to Figure painters and Diorama builders ?

Yep. If it's been used for training, it's welcome, even if it is a boring grey jet. :) If someone does the SR-71 trainer, they'll get automatic cool points!

Simulators are most definitely welcome! The ultimate 'trainer'. I believe that there's a kit of the Link trainer out there somewhere, but a scratchbuilt modern sim would be an awesome inclusion.

A reminder that this GB is intended for trainers OF ALL TYPES, not just airyplanes. So if you want to put little wheels on a model of a kids bicycle, do up an Escort or Focus in driving school markings or even make a Bren carrier from a training regiment during WW2, they're all welcome. Just nothing WHIFFY, so no T-16s for shooting womp rats from (sorry SF guys). You space cadets could stay somewhat on-genre and build an Apollo Command Module simulator.
