When I joined up my first posting was to RAF Wyton in 87, everyday these would fly over on there way into Alconbury. Great memories thanks for posting

I have always loved the F-5! A shame the F-5E never got a chance to prove itself in combat- bet it would have acquitted itself well, but I guess the lack of a serious look down-shoot down radar fit was a big disadvantage. Thanks for the photos, Sven! 👍

Great photos! I remember seeing ‘60’ at low level along the Norfolk coast many moons ago.

I’m determined to make one of these in 1/48 when I can find one with engraved panel lines that doesn’t cost over £50!

How on earth did I miss this? I grew up relatively close to Alconbury and used to see the F-5s, RF-4s and A-10s frequently. I always get a lovely, warm and fuzzy hit of nostalgia every time I see an Alconbury bird, so these photos are most welcome.

Cheers,

Mark.

Glad to revive the memories! You were lucky to have lived nearby. It maybe just rumours but I've heard the MOD might be returning activity to some of the old bases.

Don't tell the Iranians, Vietnamese, Moroccans and Saudis.  :D

Cheers,

Andre,

Unless I’m mistaken, the Vietnamese might have flown ex- South Vietnam AF F-5C’s, but no F-5E’s were delivered to them, nor were there any USAF E’s in SEA.
