franky boy
Hi everyone Im currently building a Starfighter in natural metal using AK Xtreme metal paints. I'm planning on decaling straight onto the paintwork with no varnish and then some light weathering. After this is finished I want to give it a light gloss varnish. My my question is which varnish to use without loosing the metallic effect? My thoughts were Alclad aqua gloss or AK Gauzy? Just wondering what other people use? Thanks James
AdriaN (MLT)
KLEAR! brushed on or airbrushed on! looks great.
Tomjw
In my experience, Alclad varnishes are best to retain the NMF effect. In actual fact, all varnishes will have a negative affect on the quality of the NMF effect, and in my experience, Klear is one of the worst. I also use AK Gauzy, but I have found that if you brush or spray it onto decals, they start to look somewhat 'crinckled'. It's a great base coat for decals, I've found. Stick with Alclad varnishes (the Klear Cote range) and you won't go wrong. Hth Tom Edited September 27, 2018 by Tomjw
