@dora

How about the S.55A? Brazilian Naval Aviation had six units. I have found two photos only (and a few drawings but it doesn't count :) )

Cheers, Moggy

Oooh. it is interesting! Is it possible to look at these photos ??

Ok!

they are in an Aviakuleksia book on the S.55

The drawings (made by a knowledgeable Brazilian) show the camo & markings plus a good idea about what the Brazilian Navy's S.55 looked like

Give me your email address and I will send you the material (via Firefox Send)

Cheers, Moggy

Yes, it was S.55A.
Romania labeling will be included when 55A is released.

OK, so I will wait for it! Thank you for this info.

Currently I am constructing SM 55X by Italian Delta 2 (short run) in colours  from Spanish Civil War (the thread is in Floatplanes II GB) - but I started to think that there are really big differences between variants of SM 55 and maybe on my shelves should be room for two SM 55? ;)

Cheers

I hope Dora won't  disappoint and make us who want the X variant, to find and build the lousy Delta 2 kit. 😪

As there are big differences in the engines, the float sizes and the cockpit shape, which is also enclosed.

I thought it was the Delta 2 kit that I had, but it certainly isn't resin.  I might wish it was, it is very hard polystyrene.. difficult to work.  Perhaps just Delta?  It might be available, with a little persuasion...

My bad Graham. Its plastic, but very difficult to build.....

It is an interesting short run kit to fight with. I am right now doing it:

Any news on a 1/72 s-55x variant?

The S-55X is not planned yet.
The S-55A will be launched in the spring. With a different engine, large gondolas and a closed cockpit

Hi,

I have found very surprising photo of Romanian SM 55A described

"Savoia-Marchetti S 55A in the Siutghiol Hangar"

Altough you do not see Romanian WW2 crosses (or they are close to floats?), however for me it does look like ww2 time I hope since:

1. Camo (not alu) with darker top and lighter bottom sides! Green/lt blue???

2. Other colour (Yellow?) wingtips and belt on fuselage, note that only on outer sides!  (striked out in edit note - please see P.S. below)

3. The same as belts are color use for number "VII"

In background there is  another machine also with belt on fuselage but is is alu dope top.

A topic for next box, @dora:)  I think I will go with this scheme anyway, even if you will not release it in box...

Regards

J-W

P.S. (added as "edit" next morning)

At second sight I think I was wrong, that yellow belt is only from outside. Look across the ladder on more far float, there is a yellow belt a bit obscured by the ladder.

In a very interesting set of 99 photos from Siutghiol naval base in Romania, which I have found in Net yesterday:

https://www.slideserve.com/ivie/marina

photos nos. 19, 32 and 48 show the yellow belts on Romanian SM 55A too, all in the same position, however all are on alu dope machines.

Regards
