Krieger Lunadiver variant - MANTA

Recommended Posts

Looking quality Pete! I love Ma.k designs and this to me is already looking better/more interesting than an actual lunadiver!!

Everytime I see your Ma.k designs I think to myself "one day I'll get myself a falke...... one day" I may just take a leaf out your book and bash one (as the Ma.k gods intended!)

Im on the lookout for a cheap P38 myself to start one of these.......

The original used a 1/32nd P-38 and a small Japanese sports car in 1/24th as it's basis.

So go smaller. 1/48th P-38 and a 1/32nd car. I've done it using an Airfix Jaguar. It worked.

And, given the price of the P-38 nowadays, (if you can find one) is very much cheaper.

Shopping around, maybe you could get both for 25 pounds odd.

Well Pete, after talking to you today at Southall and not having a scooby doo what you were talking about I have looked trough this thread and links and I see where you were coming from, I for one would never have seen those kits hidden in the whole of a finished kit and I have to say it looks incredible.

Nice to meet at last and enjoyed the chat.

One thing I forgot to mention if scratchbuilding a Falke.

There are three hemispheres underneath. These are anti gravity units.

On the full size model they are actually halves of table tennis balls.

(Available very cheap from China. A silly price over here).

If you go down in scale to a I/48th P-38 then what I've done in the past

is go to the pound shops at this time of year and raid the Christmas tree baubles.

About an inch diameter should do it.

(Larger ones won't be needed so can be used to gain Brownie points. 'Look what I bought you, Dear...')

Great idea and brownie points as well, sneaky!

Last weekend I managed to get a bit of time in the manshed.

I wasn't happy with the engines so had a rethink.

I had some small plastic sample? jars from years ago, knowing they'd come in handy one day.

Some plastic strip from the Big H and a WW2 Panzer idler wheel later and I had this below.

In the middle is an unused sample jar & lid. To the right are the fins from Airfix 1/24th Typhoon bombs.

The rocket nozzles are from Airfix Space Shuttle booster rockets. The Humbrol tin, of course, shows the size.

Slap on a bit of paint, assemble the parts, and....

It wouldn't be a kreiger build without a bit of rust. (Caused by heat, (probably) not rain in space!)

I added a couple of small AFV bits for interest.

The bomb fins become steering vanes (or somesuch) in the nozzles.

I've since toned down the rust with a coat of Tamiya clear matt.

The open end of the jar fits nice and tightly over the existing rocket nozzles as seen in pictures above.

Thanks for looking,

Pete

sample jars for what?

I'm sure I acquired them in Germany, so probably something to do with Tornado.

Maybe Hydraulic fluid sample jars? Or maybe I found them in a shop there. (Ahem).
