Hey.

more progress today. I was going to push through but I think a break is in order. So I’ll post this instead.

The rest got some chipping fluid, pre shade and green.

afyer she had dried I sprayed with water and chipped away.

31135152888_1bfede7ef5_b.jpg

Painted the cans and some bits and bobs.

31135154058_24a4808f59_b.jpg

I has some old decals kicking around so I added them too.

Im a lot happier now. Now mud. 🤨

I think I need some practice first.

Heres my first blast.

this was done using a loaded brush and a low pressure airbrush.

looks ok. I think I’ll watch a few more tutorials before I hit the little fella with the brown stuff.

hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend.

thanks for frolicking by.

Hi Johnny,

Nice progress. Looking good.

Personally, I use an old stiff brush for applying mud. One with a few bristles missing and some stuck together. With a brush you can put the mud exactly where you want it. You can build it up in layers, altering the colours slightly with acrylics if you want some variation. Stippling the mud on with a brush is a lot easier than blowing the mud on with an airbrush anyway.

I did both. Thanks for the tip.

Hya!

It’s been a while since I managed to get to the bench. School open evenings, work and home stuff has taken rather a front seat. My better half is out tonight so for better or for worse I covered my little tank in mud. Lots and lots of mud.

as @Badder suggested I used a brush (knackered old stiff one) to put on a base dirt layer. I mixed plaster with some of the damp earth and went at it.

45123213671_0deabf13a7_b.jpg

hmmmm not bad. Tonight will be bought to you mostly by the colour BrOwN.

45074218962_62ac249ff2_b.jpg

The initial pass looked ok but I just thought it was too blobby so I decided to do the airbrush technique too.

31249453088_bb3ef56272_b.jpg

This yielded better more natural splats that I was more happy with.

so I went at it again. I’m really glad I chipped those wheels.

45074218562_12065ce413_b.jpg

And added that ident decal on the rear.

31249452858_7cfb2ba6ea_b.jpg

@TheBaron would love doing this I think as mixing on the model and tone and texture are all flowing at once.

I spattered more on the sides.

45074217992_0b89bfea9f_b.jpg

It really got caked on the front but I just love the way it looks like MUD.🤯

44211557825_9f1e62f9a2_b.jpg

This was all good but I needed to add the turret and then go st it with some lighter dried mud.

45074218682_12065ce413_b.jpg

Im loving doing this but you can really get lost in adding this gunk so I decided to call it a day and look at it in the morning.

i love the wet bits but I’m sure that will dry Matt so I’ll use the wet mud stuff later.

here are some more angles.

43309709570_1545f1d9d5_b.jpg44211558075_065b6f4b77_b.jpg

im diggin’ That! 😀 I need to add the bits and bobs but the light spatters on the turret really work I think. I need to try and get the tracks sagging but that can be done after the mud settles.

I need a muddy base too.

Looki g back at the clean version on this thread I like them both so I’m not sure I’ll do all my tanks muddy but is so much fun and a little bit terrifying I’d recommend it to anyone.

more soon.

Thanks for dropping by and I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Johnny.

Hi Johnny,

It's always good to 'sit back' and look at things with fresh eyes in the morning. I say that knowing it's true, but often fail to do it and 'do just that little bit more and end up spoiling it' thing.

Great to hear that you're 'diggin' it'. Looks good to me too. I'm sure it will look even better when some of the 'wet stuff' is added.

And you are absolutely right. EVERYONE should do at least one 'MUDDY BEAST' in their life. It is great fun and when it's done well it can be very effective. You've defintely done the right thing in chosing a 'Toon tank' for your foray into this madness though! I still haven't the nerve to go FULL MUD on a 'proper' tank.

I will definitely have a lovely weekend. Hope you do too.

Any way I decided to keep my itchy purchase finger at bay and mix up some acrylic rust and do some high light variation with a sponge.

looks good. And sponged on.

That looks great, definitely stealing that colour mix!

What colours did you use for the green?

Thanks. It’s been great fun doing this little tank. So much so I bought a few more for a to mix it up between the flying models. 🏋️‍♀️ It was a good idea to leave it as the mud dried a lot lighter.  Looks alright with some wetness though.

Thanks sorry for the late reply. I had a busy weekend. It was Tamiya olive green with a little yellow added.

Evening everyone. It’s been a busy weekend but I managed to get the last bits and bobs on And finish up with the final parts I wasn’t happy with. 😌

I wanted to give the tracks some weight so I blobbed some glue on the wheels and held the bands in place with coffee stirrers.

30247944197_5870e75915_b.jpg44275612685_ddc27beee2_b.jpg

I’m glad I waited until the morning to check the mud as it had dried a lot lighter.

30247944647_ca2daa60b1_b.jpg31312381298_d9c6659fb8_b.jpg

and the colours look lovely in daylight.

I let that dry and checked it out tonight.

the tracks stayed put so all that was left was to add the tarps, coils, aerial and the wetness. Mmmmm wetness.

31312387828_5a12e1736b_b.jpg

The damp mud works well with some airbrush splattage.

tarps on this side.

30247938397_48bcff1a86_b.jpg

with some bits of track. I put the roll on the back.

30247944147_2cba46a563_b.jpg

I’m happy with that.  I added the rope coil on this side, the aerial went on too.

45186389311_41fbda90bd_b.jpg

I splatted wetness on the base of the wheels and track.

30247938457_c30f629e4c_b.jpg

Here’s some more shots before I call it a day. I still need to RFI the Lanc so it looks like I have to get the little tent thing out.

45186386651_b6bf8b3128_b.jpg44464175194_d9c6659fb8_b.jpg45186389291_f0200af30d_b.jpg43372454300_18fb1d2ca5_b.jpg

That as they say is your lot. I hope you like it. I certainly had a grand old time over this side of the fence, I had planned on a base but I think I’ll leave it, maybe next tank?  I’ll post the RFI probably this weekend fingers crossed. Thankyou all for popping in and watching my muddy escapade. What do we think about one of these next?

30247944667_813fe3bc17_b.jpg

i just can’t decide. 🤔 still in the mood for fun and easy after the Lanc. Any hoo. Thankyou all. Hope you had fun and hopefully this was helpful to some of you out there. RFI soon.

All the best and Happy Modelling.

Super job. You've managed to pack a lot of extra character into what was already a characterful little tanky. I imagine it being voiced by Sean Connery doing an appauling Russian accent.

Are you going to muddy-up the planes too?

That's well dirty!! Great job, Johnny Mud! :worthy:

If you're in for fun and easy, I'd stay away from the Italeri kit  -unless it's an Hasegawa or Tamiya reboxing...

Oh man Sean Connery . Amazing. 🤣

As for muddy aeroplanes, I did that once with a stearman kaydet and never heard the end of it. 🤯😂

I was intrigued by the decal options; tempted to add it to my list to build as a Greek example!

I really like the little touches, especially the tarps and rope - good job.

Thanks Ced. Still might do that base before I do the RFI.

Nice work Johnny.

A nice and used looking tank.

Like the additions of tarps etc.

The Wildcat looks a nice build if it`s the re-tooled version (I have just started the "Martlet" Version)

Simon.

It is. I thought I was following that. I need to catch up.
