The Spadgent
MENG Soviet Heavy tank KV-2 The adventure begins. Hello everyone. I’m new to this side of the forum, I have been back Modelling for a couple of years now and have pretty much plunged into Areoplanes as they are my first love. I have just completed an epic Lancaster build that has taken me seven and a half months.🤪 I’m super happy with it, no RFI as yet as She only got finished this morning. But if you fancy it you can see the WIP here. Looking at the stash over the past week or two I felt totally burned out with winged things and nothing really piqued my interest. Painting is my “Thang” and while mooching around my LMS in Brum I couldn’t resist this book. Then this caught my eye. Not everyone’s cup of tea for sure but for me she’s just what the doctor ordered. So with newly procured items in a polythene bag I finished up my BIG bird tidied the old grotto and here I am with a nice fun first toe in the water ot tanks. I hope you’ll join me on a journey into lots of new painting effects, extra modelling that I’ve never tried before, damage etc and some EXTREME MUD that I’ve always wanted to have a go at. These turned up this morning. Zero seems impressed. I have some time this evening so I’ll start in earnest post up my endeavours. Thanks for taking some time to look at my CrAzY antics. Have a lovely weekend and Happy Modelling. Johnny. 😯 Edited September 16, 2018 by The Spadgent 4
amblypygid
Bit of a change, Johnny, be interesting to see how it goes. The KV-2 is bizarrely proportioned in the first place, let alone in toon guise.

CedB
A tank. Hmmm Here for the usual Johnny 'how to mess up your models and make them look really good' lessons. It was the "Extreme" on the book cover wasn't it? Bound to grab your attention. I'm in Jont 1

The Spadgent
Glad to see the bar filling up. Hopefully I can get this looking the way I see it in my head. Fingers crossed. 🙂 I got a bit of a start this morning before I had to go walk Zero. you have seen the box but what’s inside one of these things? Ooh quite a lot of plastic for my twelve pounds and ninety nine pence. The sprues look really crisp. Here ate the main top bits. The wheels and some hook things. The bottom, some tracky bits and some decals. Oh aaaand the instructions. all four or five pages of ‘em. All rendered and in colour, what’s all that about? Is that MENG or Tanks? I’m guessing MENG. I’m sorry about the lack of scale items in the first few shots. Here’s a thumb for reference. and a bunch of wheels that got stuck together. I think this kit can be pushed together but I’ll glue as old habits die hard.🤨 This is printed on the bum. it’ll get covered in mud but I’ll know it’s there so. And once again everything is right with the world. So here we are. This is fun so far. Gotta do a bit o’ reading of that book and see what rusty colours I need to mix up. Ok zero I’m coming. more tonight. The kids are at scout camp and Gemmis at a gig so you know what that means? Thanks for all the lovely words and please chip in with any advice, Pun intended.🤤 All the best and as always. Happy Modelling. Johnny.

Kitsticker
Well I never, I'm in early for once (always seem to be playing catch-up, how do these guys do it?) Looking forward to this build, a real curve ball Johnny, didn't see that coming! Geoff
ScanmanDan
Enjoy! These are some of my favourite kits, easy to build, lots of fun to modify and no pressure or expectations. I've built a bunch and am picking the new ones up as they come out. Go nuts and have yourself a grand time. I would suggest cutting a bit of the pins off at an angle and opening up the corresponding holes for the pins a touch as these kits are a bugger to get apart while dry fitting. There is no end to what you can come up with these little beasties. I'm looking forward to see what direction you chose to go in. 1

The Spadgent
Good afternoon guys. last night ended up with wine so no modelling for me. This morning however saw a flurry of activity. 😀 I caught a glimpse of our old chair under the desk on the top landing. Ooooh chipping sir. 🤩 After seeing what @ScanmanDan has done with his wonderful models I’m even more excited about this build. I’m not going to add as much as Dan but I’ll make a few adjustments here and there. seams were filled on the cans and as I had bought some of this cool stuff at the LMS. I added some strap detail. Nicked shamelessly from Dan. There are some rather large pin marks under the wheel flap things so I filled them. The exhausts got drilled out. This little gun also got drilled out. had a lucky escape when I pinged the curved bit that fits on the gun mid section 😫 into the ether with some tweezers. I say lucky as I heard a “tinkle” noise as it dropped. it can’t be........ no word of a lie! Right in the “O” had to share, sorry. 😲 By the way have you seen the tank this is based off? I’m guessing you have, well I hadn’t. Looks bonkers. not too far from this kit. 🤣 Anyhoo back to business. Gun added and the bits and bobs. I just push fitted the cans etc as I will paint then separately. The main gun had a pretty rubbish seam. So some sanding and Mr Surfacer was brought into action. While that dried I fitted all the handles and such on the turret parts. Look at those wobbly handles. Awesome!! honestly this thing pretty much puts itself together.😄 Time for this!!!!! I want to add a few more rivets here and there and I’m going to make them as BIG as I like! Theres one on the top of the newly smoothed gun. What was that? More? Well ok then.😝 its like a violent version of finger bobs! A little more filler was needed on the edges but to be fair this kit fits like a dream. The next one I do I think I’ll add more but I want to pay attention to the chipping and mud on this one. here’s the other side. And the rear, I drilled that gun too. there we go then for the kit bits. Dry fit, (not pushed down) of the turret and top and some rope made from lead. more rivets added around the top and sides. Next up I wanted to add a few dings to the sharp edges so I carved out some bits with a scalpel. A few more songs on the turret then ready for primer. Aaaaaand paint on. right. Gotta go pick the kids up from Scout camp. I need to paint the base paint for chips next. I’ll aim brown red I think, heading for a rusty feel. Thanks for dropping by. Hope you’re all having a splendid Sunday. Take care and as always. Happy Modelling. Johnny progress.

The Spadgent
Evening all. I managed to catch an hour or so in the grotto this evening. I decided to pre shade quite heavily. I mixed Tamiya flat brown and red brown to do a rust / base coat pass. on the turret. And the wheely bits. I then added a spot of juicy with some mixed in yellow and orange. That dried for a bit then I sprayed a mat layer in preparation for the ak chipping pass. I’m following the rules of the EXTREME!!!! squared Book, so fingers crossed. I made the coulours up my self however. 🤠 great fun this. Im off to see what you guys have been up to. Take care and thanks for dropping by.
