War Prizes - 14 and counting, coming on everyone

This was an interesting idea that was put to me to be included in another GB proposal, but I found it interesting enough that it should have it's own thread/GB.

This would cover all captured equipment that was claimed by the victor or just "obtained" either in battle of mistakenly fell into the oppositions hands.

Of course it must be factual, so no Whif's, but that's it.

Choices as really too many to list, besides the obvious WWII stuff.

What do you think? We can adjust the GB as we go or can add something else to it if anyone has an idea that would fit in with this.

ok I'll start a list as there looks to be some interest in this one.

Hi Rich,

I'd be in, as New Zealand obtained a number of "War Prizes", namely:

Me 109E (Battle of Britain - gift from Britain)

Aichi Jake Float plane

A6M3 Zero - currently residing in Auckland War Memorial Museum

Interestingly (years ago now) as a young Air cadet I went to RNZAF Woodbourne, and

they had machinery such as lathes/metal guillotines and others that had been "Liberated"

from the German industrial might at the end of WWII.

Regards

Alan

Oh, there's a HUGE choice of subjects here ... scope for ancient figures (tropaion ... a new word for me), Napoleonic prize ships, through WWI and WWII to the Arab Israeli wars.

Yes!

welcome along, when you think about it there are a huge range of choices and probably lots you didn't think about or know.

The AFV lots could have a field day with amount of choices they have.

Does equipment interned and used in neutral/third party country count, for example German and US aircraft which landed in Switzerland or Sweden?

That's a great example and they would be included, same for any aircraft/vehicle that accidentally landed or drove into the wrong place. If they were re-marked and used/tested they would be ok.

Sign me up as well Rich. Have a Fw-190D to do in Soviet markings. How about an Me-262 as a Czechoslovakian AF Avia S-92, the S-92 were built from a captured factory, does that count?
