Bum trumpets aside (for the moment at least) would it be worthwhile producing a list of the model companies that we would like covered by this so that we could systematically work our way through them rather than just repeating the same 3 or 4 companies?

Please feel free to now re-insert the bum trumpet of your choice.

I too like the idea of limiting the scope to 'major players'.

For simplicity, how about also adopting a common definition of 'classic'?  For example 'pre-80s'?

Perhaps it depends on the manufacturer? For example, for the Airfix GB I might have suggested the cut-off date would be 1981 as that's when the original incarnation of Airfix went into administration. For Revell or Monogram it might be 1986, the year the two merged. Whilst for something like Matchbox it would make sense to me to cover the whole life of the brand.
