Hasegawa 1:48 AH-64D Apache Longbow

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

This is my first RFI and its actually quite old since I am not a prolific model maker in spite of my best efforts. I made this Hasegawa 1:48 Boeing AH-64D Apache Longbow as a retirement gift for my boss who had previously flown the AH-64D Apache Longbow in the U.S. Army. I used the standard Hasegawa kit, embellished with the Hasegawa aftermarket set and the decals came from a Two Bob Decal sheet which I managed to track down and included decals for a 1st Cav 227th Avn Regt bird that the boss had actually flown !. I also included some homemade maps on the instrument panel shrouds since the cab was portrayed just shutting down after a mission. I used mainly Aeromaster or Testors Acrylic paints and Tamiya weathering pastels to give the machine a dusty, well used look that was typical of conditions in Iraq during 2003/4.

Apologies for the poor standard of photography which is entirely down to me. I'm not going to try and make any excuses !.

Great clean model.

Display set you also made by yourself?

One thing which is worth to consider-dont you think your Apache is to clean for a warbird? I am talkin about some sand and dirt on the fuselage.

BTW Its a great luck that you know real Apache pilot. A true source of knowledge.

Thanks for the comments. I agree that the photos don't really show the wear on this Apache. It is a lot scruffier and worn than the pictures actually show. I used quite a bit of sand, oil and grease weathering on the airframe and blades.

And, yes, I also made the base with an IKEA picture frame, some suitably marked concrete apron coloured card, two patches. The only part I did not make was the name plate which was done by a professional engraving company.
