Kiwikitbasher
I finally have a Cromwell Models 1/72 scale Chieftain, but I'm having problems identifying some kit parts, which may or may not be Mk.II parts. Gordon is a bit problematical to correspond with as I think he's in and out of the hospital at the moment, so I'm hoping I'll find help here and on other DG's. I have included photos of the parts I cannot identify as well as the complete kit contents for those who may be interested to see what it is like. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide. Edited September 9, 2018 by Kiwikitbasher
Sgt.Squarehead
Blimey Cromwell's castings have gone downhill! Here are the instructions for Takom's 1/35 kit, perhaps they might help with identifying parts: https://www.super-hobby.com/products/British-MBT-Chieftain-Mk.2.html A - Look like Takom part A28, part of the running gear assembly. B - Look like Takom Part A36, again part of the running gear assembly. C - Can't make it out too well, possibly Takom part R8. D - Look like Takom part D15 a radio antenna base, I believe (suspect you may get a spare as it looks pretty pingable). E - Can't find them, but if I had to hazard a guess, alternate parts for D, perhaps for a vehicle in foreign service (I know SFA about Chieftains).....Optionally could they be C51, the extension for the open driver's hatch? F - Don't think they are for this kit, I can't find 'em on Takom's. G - Your guess is as good as mine, probably better. H - Can't find that one either. Kiwikitbasher
Thanks, Sgt SH, Comparing to Takom's instructions makes a lot of sense. 👍 I've commented in square brackets against your notes. 21 minutes ago, Sgt.Squarehead said: Blimey Cromwell's castings have gone downhill! Old pro
A and B I would say are the stays that hold the skirts, C is the splash guard for the bow used on later mks D antenna pots for Larkspur radio E antenna pots for clansman radio F not sure, can't seem to find an actual picture of a mk2 G No 2 as its on the same sprue as the mk2 gun lock and splash guard H is the barrel lock for later variants hope this helps

The same logic about machineguns occurred to me, so it's reassuring to have it validated. My NZ Army service was in the 80's when we retired our M41s and just had Scorpions and MII3's, so despite the Chieftain being a boyhood favourite of mine I've never been near one (in fact the only MBT I've been in is an Aussie Leopard 1A4). So thanks again for your help.
