This was what the internet was for, not to see what Kim Kardashian is wearing at Davos.  It just saved me $70.  Well done, internet, well done!  😋

It does not excuse the fact that AFV Club should have got the accuracy of this kit right, given that they should have no problem accessing the original article but most of the aforementioned problems should be within the skills of your average modeller (rather than assembler). The obvious exception is the nose section/canopy so I wonder if it would be possible to graft an old Hawk/Lindberg/Testors nose section on to the 'rear' end of the AFV kit (especially if you can dress up the latter with a Cutting Edge Cockpit detail set and possibly some intakes - I know that these sets are long OOP but there must be modellers out there (like me) that have them tucked away in their stash. Either that or we wait for Hypersonic to come out with the odd correction set or two 🤨

If true, looks more accurate - not perfect, see the top of the canopy - than the parts from the original boxing.

Anybody know if this will be tooled/fixed in 1/72?

I won't buy it until a trusted review takes place.  I have a huge stash and kits are very expensive today, for me I have been burned enough by buying "junk" on day one.  I can wait.

Well, well, well... that's much better now! :clap2:

It does say a lot about AFV listening to the modellers' input and correcting those flaws they've read on here regarding the awful shape on the windshield/canopy. Wish some other manufacturer (which brand name begins with an A and it's comprised of three characters) would do/have done the same with regard to their long awaited and last release

Bad news about this correction is that now I'm faced with the need to think whether I should sell my Testors + Cutting Edge set collection bits in order to get this one...

Cheers,

Hola, Mark!

My mate Mirto has gotten the AFV kit, so I'll see whether or not my Testors kit forward fuselage can be grafted onto the AFV kit rear end.

Not that I'm unhappy with my Testors kit, but it's just that I heard these kits suffer from a wing root misalignment between port and starboard wings :hmmm:

Apropos of the Cutting Edge sets, one Waldemar Sawerwein, from Germany, is your friend on evilBay. He seems to have a lot of the CE sets available; dunno where he gets them from, but I purchased each and every CE set there is for the U-2C kit - all but the exhaust pipe, which I haven't seen on evilBay as of yet.

Is it just me, or do those panel lines look pretty chunky?

Pretty much, yeh... Don't they?

I too bought some sets from Waldemar Sauerwein and compared them to original Cutting Edge Sets. I could spot no difference - including the packing. I doubt they are "recasts" but I can imagine that somebody is still using the original molds and such, whatever the connection is.
