1/72 Revell Sikorsky H-19A "Chickasaw"

Recommended Posts

Although I have a couple of builds underway at the moment I have decided to make a start on this project:

I bought the kit form fatalbert just over a year ago. The contents of the box are as follows, two frames moulded in white plastic:

P1010242_zpsjjmli4yw.jpg

One clear frame and a slightly damaged decal sheet:

Shame about the clunky moulded in wiper which will have to go:

I am not at all bothered by the creased decal sheet as I was given these replacements by Milktrip, aka Aaron:

P1010248_zpsvhlsjjwi.jpg

Which is kind of the reason for starting this build in the first place.

These offer four variants, most attractively coloured schemes:

I have however elected to go for the least colourful scheme, partially because it matches up with my Japanese Huey build but mainly because it features my initials; NEH - Nigel Edward Heath:

Here are the instructions which I have already started to mark up with the required paints:

I have also aquired these aftermarket items to enhance the build, Eduard PE:

And masking set:

While not universally popular, some members do like to see some of my culinary efforts, here are some recent examples, lime dressed, grilled Halloumi:

A puff pastry, anchovy and olive tart (called a pissadelere I think):

A white crabmeat and parmesan tart:

And of course, you really can't beat a nice pizza:

I'm really looking forward to making a start on this kit, bye for now,

Nigel

You know, it is nice to be appreciated, thanks guys.

No more progress on the Chickasaw to report (and probably no more until next Sunday) but I did make a quite lovely pasta dish tonight using my trusty pasta machine:

The pasta was used to encase a ragu of slow cooked beef skirt then served with a butter, sage and parmesan sauce:

They really were quite something - recipe from Anna del Conte's "Gastronomy of Italy".

Bye for now,

Nigel

Nigey is back! Yay!

I look forward to this build as we always learn something along the way.

I see that Kermit Weeks has acquired a couple of these recently (1:1 scale) and wants to put one back in the air for tourist rides.

Great little kit this so am really looking forward to seeing this progress, especially in your hands Nigel.

I removed the orrible molded in wipers (and windscreen frames from my particular variant), in this thread - hope it helps

This should be interesting.

It looks like the Japanese machines depicted on the decal sheet artwork all have the slightly later drooped tailboom and horizontal stabilisers, whereas this kit has the earlier straight tailboom drooped stabilisers (like the difference between HAR 2 and HAR4 Whirlwinds). Am I right? If so, something to consider.

Apologies for stating the obvious if you’ve already planned for this!

Hello Nigel,

Glad to see you back with culinary and modelling ideas !!

I was feeling alone in showing some plates and beverages...:rofl2::rofl2:

I have the 1/48 one to start some day, so, may I take a place at the bar ?

I also like your promotion to Wing Co with your initials on your whirly bird

Sincerely.

"I have however elected to go for the least colourful scheme, partially because it matches up with my Japanese Huey build but mainly because it features my initials; NEH - Nigel Edward Heath:"

Oh dear, now we know who you were named after!

Grilled halloumi is a favourite in our household, after we discovered it in Cyprus many years ago.

And

"A puff pastry, anchovy and olive tart (called a pissadelere I think):"

Close; it's a pissaladiere, but I really do struggle to think quite how the French derived that name!!

NH back on BM.

The world is right again.

I do like Japanese helicopters, so I'll hover along behind the bar, if I may.

(These glasses are dusty and the optics are shocking!)

Piece of lardy derriere? Wot?

Ooh, well... Derived from pissala, the local word for anchovy paste, which means salted fish. Lovely stuff if you like anchovies and olives, I'm now tempted to try and make one myself.

Fascinated to see what you'll make of this, Mr Heath.

OK, Nigel, good to have you back, how was it in prison/on the moon? Start another thread for the pasta dishes and keep this one.... It's a nice kit even if the detail is a little clunky. Remeber when you get to the nose gear, it bolts to the engine bulkhead not stuck somewhere forward of that!!!
