This is looking good Alan, I like what you're doing with it (them) the Int Blue on the Corsair looks the goods to my eyes, Humbrol?

Steve.

Hi Steve - Yes good Old Humbrol 144

Hi Folks- Thanks for the kind comments and words of encouragement.

An update of sorts:D

I have painted the fuselage the Glossy Sea Blue

I used Humbrol 189 Glossy Sea Blue (had a can hiding in my paint stash

and never knew/forgotten to just recently)

2ba2dc65-da36-43cc-bd25-9cfea9b154e3.jpg

The Humbrol colour is (sorry to all Humbrol purists) too green.

Though looking at what I want to represent doesn't look too bad

like this

Problem is... When measured against the wing colour Semi Gloss Sea Blue, the Humbrol

colour and the Sea Blue swore at each other:giggle:

I over painted the Humbrol with Testors/Model Master Dark Sea Blue which

looks much better in my eyes (rightly or wrongly), and I also mixed a Semi

Gloss Sea Blue (Humbrol colours) - I have access to a copy of a modern photo

of a F4U-1 ammunition box (off an RNZAF Corsair) with original Semi Gloss Sea Blue on it, which has

a Dark Blue/Violet colour to it - I mixed my paint accordingly and ended up with

this - a little tooo Purple Blue - also note the new fuselage colour

22366774-00eb-4c5a-9560-5c46588c1ab4.jpg

I will remix and respray - you can see clearly where the masking over the fuselage colour

rubbed against the wing (stupid rooky mistake :hmmm:) You can also see where the fuselage

masking took off both my aerial masts:angry:

Still, on the home stretch now - This photo is from the Warren Russell Book re RNZAF Corsairs

shows my aircraft as drawing/profile

Warren Russel Corsair Profile

More soon (on annual leave now, so more time to model (I hope))

Regards

Alan

arrr the joys of masking!! I find it's always 50/50 with how it's going to come out and what possible damage if can cause!

Hopefully it's not going to be too hard to correct those painting issues.

I'm looking forward to seeing her completed, it's an unusual scheme.

Hi All,

Well the end is nigh, and this is my last entry for this group build.

An update:

Re-sprayed the Semi Gloss Sea Blue after a re-mix of paint - came out quite well

I think

Applied a Gloss Clear coat and interestingly made the colour darker:)

Also repaired Aerials

Time to apply Roundels the Frog RNZAF Roundels are very good and accurate

Important Caveat - I didn't paint the Upper Starboard and Lower Port bar borders (US Insignia Blue)

as RNZAF Pacific Blue (ran out of time)

Thanks for looking in and sharing this build with me - More photos in the gallery

(And Yes I haven't added the "White 47" on the Cowling. I'll order some White numbers

and do it that way)

For anyone wanting to build the actual Frog version, this is what NZ5457 "Patricia Mary"

looked like - note nothing like Frog depicted

NZ5457 - Patricia Mary

well done on completing her Alan, she looks great in that scheme, it's good to see another Kiwi plane in the build.

I hope you enjoyed the build, it was great to have you along.

Nicely done on this old girl Alan, the Frog decals look great on it. 👍

Steve.

Thanks Steve,

To be honest I was a little anxious about the decals (not the colour) being

a bit old, but they snuggled down nicely.

I had more issues with the Lettering/numerals, but that was more the way

I had cut them - Note for Next time don't use a hobby knife :hmmm:

How about some nice shots of it sitting on it's wheels. I don't think we are seeing it at it's best at the moment.

Hi Greg,

Great minds think alike :D

As requested

This photo shows off well (I think) the Glossy Sea Blue and Semi Gloss Sea Blue on the wings

Now that looks much better. Good to see the Kiwi Corsair in the normal colours. Well done dealing with an old frog kit.

I'm trying to complete my frog/Russian Blenheim at the moment. I have made a real mess of the scribing when I was

working on it awhile ago. Still I'm going to finish it and move on.

I have a bigger 1/32 Kit  that I plan to finish in the "Re-paint" Scheme, but

that's  a while a way yet

Very well done Vought

Thank you, glad you like it.

As I mentioned to Greg above, I have a bigger 1/32 Scale RNZAF F4U-1A to

complete in the "Re- Paint" Scheme - different Airframe though

NZ5350 - Struggle Buggy (Foreground aircraft, NZ5347 my build above, is at the other end of the line)

Hello Alan @LDSModeller ... Im sorry to bother you but im in need of your expertise. I have collected 4 sets of these decals over the last 32 years. HWy2uLy.jpg

Are the Kiwi roundels too dark ? Or would the be acceptable to use ?

Dennis

Hi Dennis,

No bother at all, always happy to help :)

Looking at your photo the RNZAF Roundels appear to of similar

colour to the RAF Roundels? If so that should be fine, the RNZAF Pacific

Roundel and RAF Roundel colours were not to too dissimilar. The RNZAF Roundel

paint just weathered more in the climate conditions, but were touched up by

the Service Units who owned aircraft as required

Bear in mind the RNZAF Roundel paint was applied straight over the US Star,

so the under colour would have some effect on the applied colour especially as the RNZAF paint weathered

Hope that helps?
