Nakajima B5N 2 Kate flown by Lt Commander Shigeharu Murata Toppedo Group Leader carrier Akagi Battle of Midway

This is the 1/72 Airfix kit, which is a nice model when assembled. Thanks To Enzo Matrix for the tail codes to enable me to make my entry fit the Carriers section of the GB.

Hope you like her, cheers and Happy Christmas, Greg.

Nakajima Ki 43-I Hayabusa (Oscar) Hasegawa 1/48 scale

Well it has made the Gallery. Very much touch and go at times. First thing to say is this wasn’t the original scheme I was going to do. I had a problem with the decals that weren’t working for me at all.
So I changed to the second scheme in the kit which is a Burma plane as well from what I can see. I checked the pilot’s operation theatre.
As a result of the change and time being short I left the lower paint colour as it was. In theory it should be bare metal.   I painted all the bands as I wasn’t going to risk messing the decals up again.
The red makings are decals. I was going to do it as a clean build. However, I stuffed up the chipping
by adding too much. It looked good from the direction I was working, but when I looked at it from a different direction a lot more showed up and wasn’t looking good. The same thing happened on my Zero.

That is why it has too much chipping on the side of the cockpit. I was lucky with the Oscar because I had forgotten to add the black walkway panel decal. After I added that it looked better. Anyway this is why

I went further with the weathering.
The kit went together well all though I did have to use some filling because of my less than perfect building work. I had to do some last minute corrections because of hurrying the build in the end.
So here it is, done.  At least I got it here….

Vought F4U Corsair NZ5272/NZ5307 307 No.1 Servicing Unit Guadalcanal 1944

Airfix 1/72 rivet monster ;)

Brush painted with humbrol enamels and finished with winsor and newton galeria matt

I got much more enjoyment out of this than i had any right too, granted the mould is very well worn and out of the airfix VJ Day giftset this was the shoddiest mold out of 9 kits! Still i think if you go into the build not expecting the moon on a stick all is good! Just set aside a lot of superglue for filling! I did regret not doing any scratchbuilding but you can barely see inside the canopy anyway! :banghead:

I Also faffed it up on the intermediate blue to white demarcation doh! You can mimic a mottled/faded edge with a light brushing of white spirit on semi-dried paint ive found you can get (acceptable) mottling without an airbrush on german aircraft this way too! sadly it does not seem to work with white! flippin white!!!!! I left it anyway but that is the only thing i am not very happy with on this build!

Many thanks to our hosts and to all of those that also built and posted comments! Cheers!
