1/32 WWI B-Type Bus x 2

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, In the following days I will join this group build with not one but two Type B buses. One will be done following Airfix instructions, but the second one I will try to transform into pigeon-of-war mobile loft. Britain used over 100.000 pigeons during the Great war, and they were vital channel of communication. What is more interesting in for us modellers is that these mobile lofts were all patterned and camouflaged differently. It will be interesting to guess which colours were used on this one 😀

Anyhow, here are the obligatory pictures of the kit and I hope to start this week, and I will try to inform you on the progress on regular basis.

I took some close up detail shots of the original bus in the Imperial War Museum in London a few years back. I don't have access to them on my phone but should have internet again next week. I'll post them here if you like...

Brilliant choice of subjects.  I suspect the camouflage on the pigeon carrier was the standard dark green/khaki with a crusty layer of off white cack ! 🕊💩

A short update. It takes a lot of time to clean parts from molding marks, and almost all parts are warped a bit, but there is some progress:

Major parts assembled to start painting interior, first a coat of black surfacer:

For green color I will use Gunze 303, which is quite simillar to Hu 159, for leather seats I used Gunze Hull red. Wood on floor was done with a coat of Gunze Sail color which was then brush painted with diluted Vallejo Smoke.

Then, a coat of clear orange was airbrushed over wood surface:

There will be a lot of putty and sanding untill next update.

What a great idea.

I have always had an inclination to build this kit but never got round to it.

This seems to be a great twist on the classic. Watching with interest

Great start so far, an interesting project.

I might sit in and watch this one too, even though I am supposed to be hard at work painting faces for my own build.. Can i I just say "Speckled Jim".  Those that know, know.  For those that don't there is Google....

Humbrol Hu 159 was used for overall colour.

My colleague did me a favor and 3D printed some pigeons to make some crowd...
