Pair of 1:72 63 SQN RAF Chivenor Hawks

Recommended Posts

Morning all,

Another pair of Hawks for my Chivenor collection, this time two 63 Squadron machines as 151 Sqn was getting ahead!!

Both were airbrushed, (first time using proper airbrush) and have Master pitot tubes, and were finished with Xtradecal markings/numbers/letters, which was particularly challenging with the tiny reg serials on the grey one!!

Have bought some canopy masks to try on next ones to see if that improves things in that area!!!

First up is XX248 in camo scheme. This is a standard Airfix Red Arrows kit, so no weapons etc, and  was built and half painted as a red arrow when given to me, so camo seemed a good idea to try and cover the red!!!

(Gun pack borrowed from the one below!)

Next is XX254 finished in Air Defence grey. This is the latest Airfix Hawk kit, which still has some of the flaws, biggest annoyance is the 151 SQN jet they give you the decals for never made it to T.1A standard, being written off before the upgrades began!!!

Very nice,..... I take it that you like Chivenor Hawks?

I was supposed to do the FAC course at Chivenor in the early 90`s which included a flight in a Hawk to see it from the pilots point of view, but thanks to defence cuts my unit was disbanded and my course was cancelled,.....talk about gutted!!

Cheers

Thanks Tony.

Yeah was my local as a kid so spent many a happy hour watching the seemingly endless procession of Hawks!

Usually have one on the go whilst doing another kit!

That is gutting, so many what ifs!!!
