robgizlu
I normally build Armour or Boats and haven't built an aircraft for years. I thought I'd dip my toe and see what it was like using Eduard cockpit sets and modern washes. Forgive another Spitfire but this ASR example caught my imagination. The build was effortless apart from the undercarriage which is very flimsy. I used an Eduard Cockpit and wheel set and replaced the canons with Master versions (so much nicer). Paint was a mixture of Xtracrylix and Vallejo with Mig Ammo panel washes. The main upper wing roundel decals failed to sit on one side so I resorted to masking and spraying. I really enjoyed it as a complete break from my norm Rob
tonyot
You`ve done a wonderful job on this Spit mate,....... I love the ASR option, the paint job is immaculate and those exhausts are very well done indeed, I know what you mean about having a total change,..... I often build a tank or too as a break myself and really enjoy them. Cheers Tony Edited August 27, 2018 by tonyot

Newbie(kinda)
Superb! Is that an option OOB? How was the fit; one reads all kinds of horror stories about the forward upper fuselage, especially around the fuel tank. And, did you pin the gear legs or just glue and pray?! Excellent finish too; you should do more planes...an awful lot easier on the eye than boxes with tracks and guns!!
KelT
Great work. I just finished one of these myself (it's the Airfix Club Specialist right?) and even for a beginner the kit was a joy to put together; apart from the undercarriage, as you say, although mine is holding out so far with lots of glue and hope. I agree the cannons look much nicer, did you replace the exhausts too because that's an incredible job you've done of hollowing them out if you did it yourself.

They are also from Barracuda and are a thing of beauty! And it is the Airfix Club Specialist. Airfix seem to have come on leaps and bounds. And yes to more aircraft - I love the range of aftermarket products for detailing available now. There's an Airfix Meteor waiting in the wings which will have to wait until I complete a 1/72 largely scratchbuilt Fairmile B WW2 Motor Launch over in the maritime section. Thanks once again Rob
