Hardtarget
Made a start which i can see being a this being a little bit of a challenge which im up for especially as im planning a few of these. First up the chomping of the cockpit bits from the lumps of plastic sprue. DSC_0022 by stuart wellard, on Flickr Some per-assembly showing the floor and the panels. Bang seats are rough but i don't have any replacements. DSC_0023 by stuart wellard, on Flickr This is the wheel well, well the start of it anyway. Parts need cleaning up and needing right angles on the edges if you want to make a box of any shape. Got to love the flash on the oleos. DSC_0024 by stuart wellard, on Flickr Wheel well cemented together and doesnt look too bad. Had to re-drill the holes that the oleos fit into. DSC_0025 by stuart wellard, on Flickr Oh god help me, now onto the fuselage front section. This needs a tidy up...TBH the whole kit is in need of tidy up before you get the cement out so i wont keep repeating myself, you can look for yourselves with before and after. DSC_0026 by stuart wellard, on Flickr Cleaned up with various grades of Flory sanders. Im mostly using corse! DSC_0027 by stuart wellard, on Flickr Paint is out. MRP-49 interior grey/blue used with anthracite for the bang seats. Pin
Good luck with this one of the most challenging AModel kits! If you tame it the result will be fabulous, I don't have the courage to start mine yet.

Col.
Stunning subject but just a pity this is such a rough kit. Although to be fair your copy looks better than the one I have You look to be well up for taming it
Hardtarget
Some more progress with this beast. cementing of the wheel well and the cockpit is reasonably well fitting with no big issues. DSC_0001 (1) by stuart wellard, on Flickr Got a nice seam line to sort out but not a biggy. DSC_0002 (1) by stuart wellard, on Flickr Wings, now these needed a clean up to fit with a number of tabs fitting inside one another. Plenty of sanding and cutting required. I also had to sand the inside to flatten the under wing section so that it would sit flush. DSC_0003 (1) by stuart wellard, on Flickr Wing halves cemented together. I test fitted the large flap at this stage as suggested but will leave them off till later. One fitted perfectly the other needs adjusting. DSC_0004 by stuart wellard, on Flickr This is where the fit problems start. The intake backplate and coaming should be cemented together then cemented to the fuselage, well they dont fit this way so i cemented the back plate to the fuselage then the coaming. This has fit issues which need a lot of fettling to get it just to line up and sit right. plenty of cutting and sanding of parts before you even think of cementing. Note the gap. DSC_0005 by stuart wellard, on Flickr DSC_0006 by stuart wellard, on Flickr Gaps to be filled but what else is new. DSC_0007 by stuart wellard, on Flickr Oh the fuselage top section, gotta love the mis calculation as they dont match. DSC_0008 by stuart wellard, on Flickr Whilst some parts were nuked together i started the burner cans. This is a pre-shot after angle grinding them off the sprue. DSC_0009 by stuart wellard, on Flickr After cleanup and various test fitting, cement was applied. DSC_0010 by stuart wellard, on Flickr Did i mention the intake trunking, oh no i didnt well this is a special needs section, dont fit, too tall so you cant fit the top fuselage section over it to marry up the lower section, Had to trip the engine blades and sand heavily the inner upper fuselage section as the plastic was very thick. DSC_0011 by stuart wellard, on Flickr It fits...with persuasion. Note the gap at the section joins. DSC_0012 by stuart wellard, on Flickr MEK melted sprue acts as a filler and is a great medium for the much sanding later. The band is pulling the nose section up to get a nice fuselage line, if you dont the nose wants to drop. DSC_0013 (1) by stuart wellard, on Flickr More welding actions going on. Morlock
Will be interesting to watch. I like a lot of the subjects Amodel put out but their price and roughness put me off. I won't upset you by saying that Trumpeter are due to release a kit of this subject at some point... Edited August 27, 2018 by Morlock

Yeppp.......but will the Trumpeter have fewer errors than A-model? Knowing the mere pathological craving of the Chinese to make crooked nose in USSR aircraft models, I personally do not hurry to get rid of the A-models! Naturally, the release of the Tu-128 from the Trumpeter is good, if only because the assortment of the aftermarket will expand. By the way ejection seat KT-1 for the Tu-128 does NeOmega (only they can not fit into the cockpit!) And the engines of the Tu-128 are the same as those of the Su-7, they are made by the Amigo model. Jabba
Having built the trainer version of this model I do feel for what you are going through with the fit of the kit, especially when the front and back halves are joined together. You do seem to have got this done very well and I wish you the best of luck with the rest of the kit.

I think the key for me anyway is that i apply my initial application to the area, leave it for 48hrs then add another coat so that there is time for the shrinkage, as ive had on the top and underside, then with the other coating it acts as another layer without shrinking. To be honest I am not that fussy. A kit that looks like a Fiddler and goes together decently and at a fair price is enough!

zebra
Great work Stuart. I have one of these in the stash, occasionally I get it out and have a look, but it never gets anywhere near the bench. Hardtarget
Little bit more movement on this beast. fuselage to main wing join needing plenty of filling and sanding trying to keep the curvatures of those intakes meeting the main fuselage. DSC_0001 by stuart wellard, on Flickr Sanded underside join. This will all requrie some finer sanding later and on before priming. DSC_0002 by stuart wellard, on Flickr Rear sections requiring lots of liquid sprue. At this point you need to add some smaller elevator ports and another section. These don't fit so need trimming and shaping. DSC_0016 by stuart wellard, on Flickr

Hardtarget
Recent progress has been sanding, filling, sanding filling. DSC_0001 by stuart wellard, on Flickr Tail has been fitted not without its issues though. DSC_0002 by stuart wellard, on Flickr Flaps and ailerons cemented, and guess what... they don't fit that well so a bit of cutting and sanding required.
