Hardtarget
Being short run, we come to expect a bit of kit bashing from time to time. Just hope other Amodel kits go together a little bit better than this one. Ive not started the other one yet as i want to make sure ve got enough time to finish this. Must admit i didnt expect to do so much work but im sure it will be worth it.

Not really, I have just recently built one of their MBB-105s and although not as bad as this kit it was still a bit of a struggle. This is coming along really well with the patience and skill that you have shown throughout the build.
IanHx
Oh this brings back memories (best left suppressed!).... Tackled the same kit in last year's 70s group build. Looks like you're past the worst of it, once the front section and the wings are together there shouldn't be too many more nasty surprises. Welcome to the "I survived the Amodel Tu-128" club. : ) Edited September 9, 2018 by IanHx
Hardtarget
Got a bit of progress on this bird. The last week started off with more filling and sanding getting rid of any imperfections following priming. DSC_0001 (1) by stuart wellard, on Flickr DSC_0002 (1) by stuart wellard, on Flickr I then gave her a test coat of xtreme metals black primer and then Xtreme metals aluminium DSC_0009 by stuart wellard, on Flickr This resulted in a bit more filling which i used deluxe putty filler. DSC_0010 by stuart wellard, on Flickr Whilst that was all drawing i set about assembling the elevators and stabilizers. Hint they did not fit very well and needed many little cuts. DSC_0023 by stuart wellard, on Flickr More priming of the recently filled and sanded areas. DSC_0024 by stuart wellard, on Flickr Undercarriage!!!!!! Urrrghhh. Multiple parts that dont marry up are either too long or too short. The biggest task was cleaning them up!. Cleaned up parts DSC_0026 by stuart wellard, on Flickr Assembled. DSC_0025 by stuart wellard, on Flickr Fitting the main oleos to the bays wanst a problem. The supporting arms were a bit tricky. DSC_0027 by stuart wellard, on Flickr Canopy masked, which was a task as the scribes were so feint i had to match up from the inside when cutting. DSC_0028 by stuart wellard, on Flickr Once i felt she was ready i got out eh xtreme metals aluminiums, and with a combo of white, dark and standard i got a subtle differentiation. I also airbrushed the burner cans. DSC_0029 by stuart wellard, on Flickr And whilst that was drying, the wheels were airbrushed anthracite. Col.
Impressive work To get a good metalic finish after all the fit issues this kit has presented you shows how well you've tackled it. Your workbench certainly looks busy and with a nice collection of interesting current projects. Any chance of a photo with the Fiddler and Phantom together as a guide to just how massive the Tu-128 was? No issues and no smudging which you get with alclad, being a laqurer based product.
Hardtarget
Ok onto the final strait. The wheels were airbrushed MRP 32 Green for wheel hubs. For this i simply use a a drill gauge. I did have to slightly drill out the wheels as they didnt fit the fixing points on the u/c. DSC_0031 by stuart wellard, on Flickr Wheels affixed in place, and a shot showing some panel colour contrast. DSC_0032 by stuart wellard, on Flickr Weapons, well what can i say, i probably should have used some ICM Soviet weapons sets i have in the loft but i forgot and had to wrestle these bad boys. Lots of flash plenty of cutting and reshaping, sink marks but got there in the end. Here they are assembled painted and decaled. DSC_0033 by stuart wellard, on Flickr Some added antennae detail as seen on the real thing but completely omitted from the kit. DSC_0034 by stuart wellard, on Flickr Shot prior to fitting the weapons. DSC_0035 by stuart wellard, on Flickr And fitted along with their rails. DSC_0036 by stuart wellard, on Flickr all being well i should get her shot tomorrow or i might wait until the Mirage is at the same point.
zebra
Excellent work Stuart. You’ve turned a pretty horrible kit into a fantastic looking model. I’m almost inspired to dig mine out of the stash. I expect I’ll get as far as digging it out, taking a look and putting it straight back again like I usually do!
Col.
Well done! To make such a great model out of such a nasty kit was impressive work
