I always thought we would go for that Japanese thing that was at RIAT 2016 looked great

Ah yes, the Kawasaki P-1, a very capable looking aircraft but if Her Majesty's Royal Air Force had selected it they probably would have ordered it in overall monotone grey instead of the more interesting two tone blue or grey schemes that the Japanese Self Defence Forces use.

The P1 has some attraction, but the P8 offers complete interoperability with the USN, Norway, Australia and New Zealand.

Dear RAF,

Please don't name it 'Wedgetail'.

Yours etc

A Wedgetail is an Australian Eagle.

Wedgetail was the project name that stuck, Turkey's are Peace Eagle and South Korea's are Peace Eye.

Perhaps call it Golden Eagle?

Airseeker was the name of the programme, part of a triumvirate with Seaseeker and Landseeker.  It was never intended to be the name of the aircraft which remains RC-135W Rivet Joint.
