arubin
I am having difficulty finding a varnish to go over Mr Hobby aqueous paints. I am using a brush. I have tried Humbrol Clear but that caused fine crazing. I have tried Mr Color clear but that attacks the underling paint . Would Mr Hobby aqueous clear H020 be the way to go? Redstaff
I use Mr Topcoat aerosols as I've never had success airbrushing varnishes
bmwh548
Mr. Color shouldn't be brushed over Aqueous, the solvent is far too strong. Try the Aqueous varnishes, but you might be very disappointed. I remember the flat varnish drying almost white, never tried the gloss one. If you want a good, brushable varnish try the Revell Aqua stuff. I find them very forgiving and the finish is very nice. They can also be airbrushed with a drop of retarder.
arubin
Thanks, I'll try that. I did find some Vallejo aqueous varnish and I'm giving that a go.
azureglo
Have a look here & here: Mr Gloss Super clear UV cut (thinned with Mr Leveling) over aqueous H327 , finished with a mist of of Mr Leveling. Shiny enough for you?
bmwh548
Pretty sure he's interested in Flat Clear since he mentioned the H020. Also he's brushing not airbrushing and that doesn't allow for very fine layers so that the waterbased paint isn't affected.
arubin
Quote MR.SUPER CLEAR UV CUT GLOSS Many modelers have had the experience of not only direct ultraviolet light from the sun but also indoor sources such as fluorescent light fading the paint on their projects. Mr. SUPER CLEAR UV CUT series is special clear coating that reduces the effects of ultraviolet light. Use this coating to preserve your long hours of painting. (This product is made especially for the Mr. Color series and cannot be used over water-based paints and decals.) This page suggests it shouldn't be used over aqueous. I'm looking for protection not shiny. My final coat is matt.
