Codger

The loss of a Comrade

Recommended Posts

Fellow Britmodelers, it pains me to inform you of the passing of a

gentleman of the highest order and superb modeller, our friend Paul

Calvert, known on screen here as PC 2012.

Paul has fought a painful and gallant battle with cancer and has gone

to his rest. He leaves behind a loving wife and family, who also fought

with all their heart and resources to arrest this hated disease. His

loving wife cared for him and brightened his life throughout, and was

at his side to the end.

Paul had several model builds in progress as his battle became more

onerous, which he had posted here. When he was unable to continue,

Mrs Calvert reached out to me that it was Paul's wish that I continue

and finish the build on his beloved MFH Gurney Eagle. Completely

flattered and greatly honoured, I made it known that my own health

conditions preclude any further model building, especially on his 1/20

scale racer with what seems like thousands of tiny rivets that he had

painstakingly installed.

Not wishing to turn away such a heartwarming request, I contacted two

splendid modellers here whose work has inspired us all. The mark of

two world-class gentlemen is that they both not only responded, they

immediately put aside their own life issues and projects to coordinate

with me on this project of brotherly love. They are Silver 911 , Ron

Clark and Sharknose, Sam Kabbani. Time was of the essence but alas,

the disease had completed its evil work as we began the project. Mrs

Calvert did say that Paul was immensely pleased at my choice of

craftsmen and of learning of the effort of we three.

So with heavy heart, I announce that Paul's beloved Eagle will

resurface as a continuation of Paul's original build thread (seen below) in Work In

Progress, updated by Sam Kabbani who is doing the main construction.

Ron's expert finishing work will be seen on those areas not yet having

finish applied. Their work will be a treat to follow and will surely have

pleased Paul.

We three, from very different areas of the globe, hope we can do

justice to Paul's memory and gain your viewing support. When

complete, we will return the finished project to the Calvert family. It is

our earnest hope that they will approve of our efforts to bring to

conclusion in the most respectful way, the work of our brother Paul,

and to showcase the skills and work of a truly gifted builder that he

undoubtedly was.

Codger, Silver & Sharknose -

Chas, Ron & Sam

Very, very sad news.  I'm a relatively new member of the forum and back to the hobby after 30 odd year break, I returned about 3 years ago building armour, having since moved on to build a car and a bike.  Left the hobby all those years ago building Tamiiya 1/12 F1 cars,  looking at Paul's work inspired me to get back into building them and with a MFH kit.

 RIP Paul

We three are very touched at your words of support gentlemen.

We are sure it will warm Zoe's heart to know how the members felt about Paul.

It would be a great bonus to have the input of the members when Sam re-opens the build thread for the 'Eagle'.

Thank you all,

Respect

Chas, Sam Ron

All my thoughts goes for his wife and his family.

I have just seen this, and it's heartbreaking to lose a friend and fellow modeler.  Kudos to you gents for carrying on his work and seeing it finished.  I will be checking in from time to time and watch the progress.
