CedB
GREAT crane impression PC Siblings are bound to compete and I found the best way to handle it is not to reward either, unless they've made an effort of some sort. Life skills and parameters rule, OK? Nice try with the filling... it always was a Herculean task and there's no shame in experiments that don't quite work out as you'd hoped - ask me how I know. That said you've still got a nice Hurri there and, once the camo and decals are on, I bet she looks good. Onwards! 2
Troy Smith
5 hours ago, Procopius said: The slight gloss finish tends to obscure how deep the lines remain. I'm quite disappointed, but perhaps realistically anything thin enough to spread by brush was never going to have enough moxie to do the job. My fear with something like Perfect Plastic Putty is that it doesn't adhere as well as hotter fillers, but perhaps with something as rigid as a rear fuselage, that wouldn't be an issue, especially with primer laid over it. Anyway, the whole thing is so frustrating, because the rear fuselage of the Hurricane looks more like a series of angled flat plates than hills and valleys: Last observation is correct, The botch job Hase did on their fabric effect on Hurricanes, both 72 and 48th, is a matter of great distress to me...... not only the "skinny cow" but the false edges of the fabric access panels, which I have not found a satisfactory cure for... I suspect the only 'satisfactory cure' that does not involve a massive amount of work is resin replacement fuselage... (yes, I have considered making one...) John Adams has an interesting technique, which I tried on a scrapper 1/48 Hurricane fuselage, and it helped read the following posts in the thread. I presume there is a similar product available in the US? Neat bit of deduction on the various airframes @Procopius cheers T
Procopius
I was too tired to post last night, but I did some more painting. I did the black spinner/sky backplate for the 242 Squadron Hurricane IIc, and I think it looks pretty good: 20180824_001917 by Edward IX, on Flickr Sky undersides are on both Hurricanes (and tailband painted for masking on the 71 Squadron IIb) 20180824_001859 by Edward IX, on Flickr I opted to paint the gear wells Sky rather than silver or interior grey green on these examples. Radiators painted separately: 20180824_001902 by Edward IX, on Flickr This was stupid as I should have alcladded the grille and now I need to think of a different way.

Troy Smith
If the aluminium overspray requires redoing, Another possibility, the IIc Trop may well have had Sky Blue undersides, as opposed to Sky. This has been discussed here before, and, well, if you Google "Britmodeller Sky Blue tropical" you'll get a load of threads. @tonyot has researched Malta extensively, so he may able to add some info as well. Procopius
Minimal progress due to a combination of business and extreme heat (it's 93 F / 34 C out right now, and our circuit breakers are frequently tripped from the effort of keeping the A/C going). My PE anti-glare shields (by Owl, and viciously overpriced, too) arrived today, though, so I thought I'd stick them on. The PE itself bent well, but I hadn't reckoned with the extreme heat and humidity, which caused the superglue I initially used to fail -- had I been thinking properly, I would have used my Gator Grip glue right off the bat -- ultimately that's what I had to do, after screwing things up a bit. 20180827_214424 by Edward IX, on Flickr Also, if you do a straight 90-degree bend, the base of the shield will not conform to the curvature of the fuselage, so some finagling is really needed. 20180827_214435 by Edward IX, on Flickr Anyway, more later.

Size wise they're scaled, price wise, pretty much 1:1. They do lend something to your Hurri though, or maybe its just your finagling. Procopius
Sorry for the lack of updates, but I've caught the cold Winston and Grant caught during their ER visit, the total cost of which has now hit just under $2,000 all to discover absolutely nothing was wrong, something which could have been discovered for free if their mother was just a few notches less neurotic. We have two. There's a spare. In any case, I masked off the wheel wells and resprayed about them: 20180830_211946 by Edward IX, on Flickr I also prised off the anti-glare shields, sanded the superglue off their backs, sanded down the cowl area a bit, and reattached them using Gator Grip glue. 20180830_212155 by Edward IX, on Flickr I also painted the prop tips: 20180830_212006 by Edward IX, on Flickr Masked off the radiators: 20180830_213041 by Edward IX, on Flickr And sprayed EXXXXXXTREEEEEEEEEEEEEME Metal Aluminium down them: 20180830_213614 by Edward IX, on Flickr So, now: Need to wait for the bellies to dry and mask. Spray uppersurface camo, Assemble props and figure out how much trimming down each individual blade needs (and they do need trimming). Wheels. Landing gear. All the other stuff we do to finish a kit. It's a long holiday weekend for me, as Monday is Labor Day, when we celebrate our complete and crushing defeat of same in this country. It's unlikely I'll get a lot of modelling done, as Mrs P doesn't get it or tomorrow off, so I'll be watching the children. As anyone who's watched sick kids while sick themselves knows, death by firing squad would be preferable. 11
