Centurion Mk.III Update Sets (for Tamiya)

1:35 Eduard

Tamiya's aged Centurion kit needs a bit of help to bring it up to modern standards, which is exactly what these two sets from Eduard aim to achieve.  As usual with Eduard's Photo-Etch (PE) and Mask sets, they arrive in a flat resealable package, with a white backing card protecting the contents and the instructions that are sandwiched between.

Update Set (36385)

A double fret of brass PE that starts with the details around the front and rear fenders, replacing the rear ones and detailing the front after removing the thick kit details.  The driver's periscopes are given new armoured surrounds; the fender mounted stowage boxes have new clasps, locks and hinges added; the pioneer tools and barrel cleaning rods get new clamps; the engine deck is detailed with new handles, brackets and other fittings; the fender stiffeners and brackets are replaced by PE parts, with a new PE shroud around the exhaust; a new stowage box is added to the glacis and a flip-up transparent protector for the driver's vision blocks are made up with a small piece of acetate; a plethora of blocky renditions of tie-downs on the turret, stowage boxes and side skirts are replaced with in-scale new parts; the smoke grenade launchers have are replaced by new parts that replace the kit launchers but retain the grenade barrels; the turret mounted stowage boxes are detailed with new locks, hinges and tie-downs, while the hatches are also given more details including handles; the mantlet bag is fitted with the retaining strips that hold the bag in place, and finally the combined cable reel/fuel can rack is detailed with new parts.  Quite a comprehensive set.

Side Skirts (36389)

As the name implies, this is a new set of side skirts, spread over two sheets of PE, which first requires the removal of small tabs on the edges of the fenders, and stand-off brackets.  The heavy strap across the front mudguard is also removed and replaced with a new part, plus a small fillet that is missing.  New detailed attachment brackets are added to the sides of the fenders, and the fender parts glue to these and the adjusted stand-off brackets, with bolt heads on the other side of these points, all of which are supplied on the frets.  New tie-down points are fitted in the marked points, and a scrap diagram shows the correct order of the layers from the front.
