1/72 ABM Beriev MDR-5

Recommended Posts

I thought "I have too many unfinished projects, why not to start another one" and pulled ABM MDR-5 box out of vaults.

The box content is shown here:

The prototype:

Don't worry, the mast with a windsock is not an integral part of the plane :)

The interiour will be mostly invisible, except for the cockpit so I did not put much effort to detailing it

This is a big boat, the wing is moulded as a single piece of resin and therefore quite heavy

As mentioned before, because of large cockpit windows one should not neglect detailing it

Wing and fin attached.

There is another freshly started project on the forefront - PR-12 resin kit by AirKits

Body is ready for painting. The original was not NMF, rather a metallic paint, therefore no panel effect.

Not happy at all with the first layer. More fine sanding ahead

Some update.

Decided not to paint the turrets but to imitate the framing with thin self adhesive foil strips. Gave it some sanding to make it matt

The kit does not include bombs so I decided to make copies using ICM SB kit

This is a very interesting build and she looks fantastic.  I wish you had not shown anything of your AirKits kit.  I went looking for AirKits and found this   http://scalemodels.ru/articles/8477-AirKits---Kajuk-1-72-ant-7-sssr-n-166.html

I would like one, where do I get one from.

I always look at MiniWorld guns with awe - how can a human being produce such finesse? This is not scale modelling but jewellery or watchcraft. Does the man behind MiniWorld fixes Pateks in his spare time?

The bombs. I want to add the bombs and this would require some scratch building

I'd be tempted to buy one, but I'm guessing they are either astronomically expensive or out of production?

Alas, both, I afraid.

I paid £130 for the kit, it is sold out and there are no plans to resume production AFAIK.

I have, however, ROM-1 kit for sale

Probably for the best- if my wife found out how much it was she would kill me...

I have probably most of the the Prop&Jet back catalogue in the stash. The problem I have is I take them out occasionally, realise they are such jewels of kits, many now long out of production and probably quite valuable. All that means I never dare build them!
