Postage + Packing info @ MJW Models

Recommended Posts

I feel it's important to post something here about postage and packing, as it's vital for an online mail order company like this. I would people to have an idea about how we do the postage and where the info can be found. The first thing to say is that we use Royal Mail for almost all the items we post, be it letter or parcel post. For oversize orders that are too big, we generally use Parcelforce. We have tried other couriers, such as Hermes but have had issues with them, most of the time we've used them, so we avoid them. Our post is collected in the afternoon, Monday - Friday by the Royal Mail, except on English bank holidays. This obviously means anything bought on Friday evening or Saturday, has to be posted on Monday but our goal of despatching everything within 1 working day can be maintained.

The next point is that we don't do the gimmick known as 'free post', as a gimmick is all it is, no business can afford to pay all the postage costs itself! Royal Mail do not deliver things for nothing, so everything has to have a postage cost, it's just how you go about applying it, that differs. We choose to separate the item prices and postage costs, regardless of order size, this makes it easier to see how much the postage is and for our website to calculate combined postage on multiple items. We believe this is a more transparent way of doing business for our customers and it's easier for us to see what part of a sale is items and post.

We post to many countries outside the UK, mostly in Europe, North America, Australia and a few more. All foreign post is by airmail and if the sale is over £20, it will be tracked or signed for airmail, depending on what service is available. Anything over £20 needs to go by some kind of registered service to be insured for loss/damage. There is a 2kg limit on airmail and any parcels can not exceed 90cm after adding up the length, width and depth of the parcel. Anything exceeding that could get very expensive, unless you're in the EU and it can go by road. If you try to buy a kit that exceeds the limit, our website may quote you a silly price, if it does, please email us, rather than just post rude comments in public (it has happened).

Single item UK postage rates can be found on our website, here is the link - https://mjwmodels.co.uk/uk-postage-rates-29-w.asp

General postage info can be found here - https://mjwmodels.co.uk/postage-4-w.asp

Lastly, please remember that all rates are set by the Royal Mail and our postage rates reflect this, plus packaging. As we have an account with Royal Mail, our prices are cheaper than going to a Post Office counter and paying for it as a normal customer. If you think the rates are high, please don't leave rude comments in public about them, complain to the Royal Mail instead! Working out the postage rates can be time consuming and we work hard to make our rates competitive and fair.

thanks

Mike
