Manston Harrier

Recommended Posts

A little something, (if you can call the Airfix 1/24 scale kit `little`), I have been working on and off for the last few months based on one of the residents now based at the Manston fire dump.

I wanted to do something a little different from the usual Harrier builds you see and after my visit to Manston last September, this wreck caught me eye.

To put it into context what I was trying to replicate here are a couple of pictures of the real thing....,

That's amazing. It must have been difficult to break apart a perfectly good kit but the results are well worth the sacrifice. My only comment is that you forgot the little yellow flowers near the starboard intake. 🙂

Amazing model, diorama/vignette and subject!

It is something of a shock to see (what was) a hi-tech, mega-expensive, complex machine rotting in a field.

Doubtless all the best bits have been removed, but it is still a little emotional to see it in this state.

That makes your build even more poignant - a tableau to a once-proud warrior, you might say.

Thanks for the comments all. 👍

Absolutely appreciate this isn`t going float everyone's boat, it was purely the challenge of pushing myself and if your familiar with my builds, you know I`m not one to do the `norm`.

Having seen this in the flesh. Manston is when my model club hangs out and we have been on the dump several times. I can say that is a perfect representation of the real thing.

Nice one

Wow, so glad I logged on for a quick browse. What a fantastic looking build. Unique I'd say.

Congratulations on such a brilliant build, love it, love the grass as well. Also thanks for the pics of the field.

All the best,  Martin

Brilliant work TC I've peeked over the hedge at Manston a few times always makes me a little sad especially the Tiger squadron F-4 looking nearly intact.  You've done an amazing job capturing the Harrier and in the large scale kudos to you

thanks for sharing

regards
