Hello Everybody well here is my take on the Airfix P-51 Mustang. I built “Run, Rabbit, Run !” a P-51D Mustang from the 20th Fighter Group, 8th A.F. Fighter command, circa September 1st 1944. This is part of a bigger project of mine to build a diorama of the weekly planning meeting of 8th A.F. Fighter command and this is the 3rd build i have completed of 15 aircraft. Without further talk I present to you “Run, Rabbit, Run!”

Miss Miami was assigned to Lieutenant Rep Jones of the 77th Fighter Squadron, 20th Fighter Group at Kingscliffe. It was named after his home town in Florida. He completed his combat tour in April 1945, claiming seven kills (ground and air). The aircraft was scrapped in September 1945.

This is my effort with the Airfix 1/72 Mustang IV Starter Set kit. Built to represent P-51D Bu No. 44-72199 in the colours of Captain Charles E "Chuck" Weaver's G4-A 'Passion Wagon'  362nd Fighter Squadron of the 357th Fighter Group. I used the Kits-World War Birds decal sheet. Very enjoyable build with some very tight tolerances on a well engineered kit, a pleasure to build.

Please forgive the whacked out landing gear geometry.  Was going to try to fix that but ran out of time.  It is what it is.

In any case, many thanks to everyone for a great group build.  I learned a lot and had fun.  Let's do it again! :bounce:

North American Mustang IV

RAF 112 Squadron,

Italy, 1945

This was an OOB build. The camouflage is brush painted using Humbrol Acrylics, and finished with the kit decal scheme for 112 Sqdn. It was a nice kit to build, although some of the parts were not as crisp as the original release. The flash on the aerial mast was so bad that I had trouble distinguishing the part so I use some scrap sheet to scratch a replacement. Anyway, here is the finished model.

Mustang IV RAAF, painted with Halfords aluminium rattle can and xtracrylix olive drab and azure blue (with humbrol red in the spinner ), bombs from the spares box (think they were leftovers from the Revell p-47 I built in the current STGb), also has a freightdog aeroproducts prop. No idea who made the decals though I think I got them from @Rabbit Leader. Finished with a coat of Winsor and Newton Matt varnish

Hi chaps hope we are all well.. this is my first group build ive ever done..on any forum! :o

Thoroughly enjoyed it! I built this in around 5 days (still bits of wet paint on it :p) after deciding i needed a break from the italeri ju88 that had been doing my head in!

So yes here is my effort.. All brush painted using humbrol enamels of various ages, fantastic little kit well done airfix!

I built this kit as i would of built a kit when i was 12 i just went for it! lot of fun it just fell together.

Great builds all, regards :)
